Certification Must-Have:

Knowledge of anatomy and physiology and radiological positioning ofthe human body. Understanding mechanical attributes of CT softwareand hardware. Thorough knowledge of PACS system. Maintains CEUCredits. Team members must achieve ARRT (CT) certification withintwelve months following hire date. American Heart Association BasicLife Support (BLS) Certification within three months of hire date.

Description:

The CT Scan Technologist performs computed tomographyprocedures and related techniques. Produces sectional andthree-dimensional images for interpretation. Assists withinterventional and therapeutic procedures. Performs complex CTprocedures. Uses professional judgment when reviewing and obtainingpatient clinical history for procedures. Ensures information isdocumented and scanned into the system. Prepares, screens, andreviews the accuracy of the contrast questionnaire with the patientor family member. Identifies and/or administers contrast mediarelated to CT exams as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.

Reviews the patient prescription to verify appropriateness of theexam. Communicates with the Radiologist and Referring Physician toobtain additional clinical information or a new prescription ifincorrect. Calls physicians to clarify the prescription inaccordance with appropriate CT protocols. Verifies insuranceauthorized exam script and sends exam modification forms forinsurance re-verification. Obtains outside studies and schedulesthem so the CD and reports are available for comparison byRadiologists. Provides exam copies to the patient and requestingphysician or family member. Evaluates radiographs to ensureradiographs contain proper identification and are of diagnosticvalue. Uses consistent and appropriate techniques to gatherrelevant information from the medical record and health careproviders. Determines whether the patient has been appropriatelyprepared for the procedure. Prepares the patient for scanning,including shielding and immobilization devices. Determinesappropriate type and dose of contrast to be administered. Providesaccurate explanations and instructions at any appropriate timetailored to the patient’s level of understanding. Addresses anddocuments patient questions and concerns regarding the procedure.

Performs venipuncture, IV patency, and maintenance proceduresaccording to established guidelines. Monitors the patient’sphysical condition for any adverse reactions during the procedure.

Responsible for scheduled shifts including holidays and weekends.

Adheres to the policy of Employee ID, Standards of Behavior,Attendance, and Punctuality. Lifts a minimum of 25 lbs., pushes andpulls a minimum of 50 lbs., and stands a minimum of 6 hours a day.

Identifies the needs of the patient population served and modifiesand delivers care accordingly. Communicates with the patient,parent, and/or primary caregiver(s) at their level ofunderstanding. Adheres to the standards identified in theorganization’s competencies and standards of behavior.
