Travel An Interventional Radiology (IR) Technologist specializes inassisting with minimally invasive procedures that utilize imagingtechniques such as fluoroscopy, CT scans, and ultrasound to guidephysicians in the diagnosis and treatment of various medicalconditions. IR Technologists work closely with interventionalradiologists and other medical professionals to perform proceduresthat can treat diseases, blockages, and injuries without the needfor traditional surgery. They are responsible for preparingpatients, operating imaging equipment, and ensuring a sterile andsafe environment during procedures. /n/n

Key Responsibilities:

Pre-Procedure Preparation:

/n /n

• Prepare the interventionalradiology (IR) suite by ensuring all necessary imaging equipment,sterile instruments, and supplies are available and functioning. /n
• Review patient information, medical history, and previous imagingstudies to ensure the correct procedure and appropriate imagingprotocols. /n
• Verify patient identity, allergies, and consentforms before the procedure begins. /n
• Explain the procedure tothe patient, address any concerns, and provide reassurance toreduce anxiety.

Assisting During Procedures:

/n /n

• Assist the interventional radiologist in performing a wide range ofminimally invasive procedures, including angiograms, biopsies,catheter placements, stent insertions, and drain placements. /n
• Operate imaging equipment (e.g., fluoroscopy, CT scan, orultrasound) to guide the physician during procedures, ensuringaccurate imaging to target specific areas of the body. /n
• Maintain a sterile environment by assisting with sterile draping,setting up sterile instruments, and handling devices as requiredduring the procedure. /n
• Administer contrast agents or dyes, asdirected by the physician, to enhance visibility of blood vesselsor organs on imaging. /n
• Monitor the patient’s vital signs,including heart rate, blood pressure, and oxygen levels, during theprocedure and report any changes to the medical team.

Patient Safety and Comfort:

• Ensure patient comfort andsafety throughout the procedure, positioning the patientappropriately to obtain optimal images while preventing injury. /n
• Take precautions to minimize radiation exposure to both thepatient and the healthcare team by following radiation safetyprotocols, using shielding, and optimizing imaging settings. /n
• Monitor patients for signs of complications, such as bleeding,infection, or adverse reactions to contrast agents, and reportfindings to the physician.

Post-Procedure Care:

• Monitor patients post-procedure for any immediatecomplications, including bleeding, infection, or changes in vitalsigns. /n
• Assist in the transfer of patients to recovery oranother unit after the procedure, ensuring they are comfortable andstable during transport. /n
• Provide post-procedure careinstructions to patients, including guidance on activityrestrictions, wound care, and follow-up appointments. /n
• Assistin the removal of catheter lines, drains, or other devices afterthe procedure if required, and ensure the area is clean and dressedproperly.

Equipment Maintenance and Troubleshooting:

• Regularly maintain and inspect IR equipment, such asfluoroscopy units, imaging systems, and catheter-based tools,ensuring they are functioning correctly. /n
• Troubleshoot anyequipment malfunctions during procedures to ensure minimaldisruption to patient care. /n
• Keep accurate records of equipmentuse, maintenance, and any issues that arise with the imagingequipment.

Medical Team:

• Work closely with interventional radiologists, nurses,anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure thesuccess of each procedure and high-quality patient care. /n
• Provide feedback and support to the medical team during procedures,particularly in regard to imaging quality and patient positioning./n
• Participate in discussions before and after procedures toreview patient conditions, procedural outcomes, and follow-up care.

Documentation and Record-Keeping:

• Accuratelydocument all patient information, procedures performed, imagingparameters, and medications administered in the electronic healthrecord (EHR). /n
• Ensure that all records are completed incompliance with hospital or clinic policies and regulatorystandards. /n
• Maintain detailed logs of imaging procedures,contrast agents used, and patient conditions during and after theprocedure.

Radiation Safety and Compliance:

• Follow strict radiation safety protocols to ensure that radiationexposure is minimized for both the patient and the medical staff,including wearing protective equipment such as lead aprons. /n
• Adhere to healthcare regulations and standards, including HIPAA,infection control measures, and hospital accreditation guidelines./n
• Stay updated on the latest radiation safety practices, imagingtechniques, and procedural advancements.

Professional Development and Training:

• Participate incontinuing education and training to remain current with the latesttechnologies, techniques, and best practices in interventionalradiology. /n
• Obtain and maintain certifications in radiologictechnology and interventional radiology, and attend relevantworkshops, conferences, and seminars. /n
• Mentor and assist intraining new IR technologists or students in proper procedures,equipment handling, and safety protocols.
