ICU RN Job Summary:
Provides quality patient care tocritically ill patients, through the nursing process of Assessment,Planning, Intervention, and Evaluation. Serves as a patientadvocate at all times. Supervises the nursing care provided to eachpatient by other caregivers. Develops the plan for nursing care asa result of coordination with the patient, family and staff ofother disciplines as necessary. Applies critical thinking in orderto promote positive clinical outcomes. Ensures patient education.
Participates in discharge planning.
- Maintains the standard ofnursing care and implements the policies and procedures of thehospital and the nursing department.
- Assesses the patient onadmission within the required time frame. Makes referral to otherdisciplines based on the assessment, such as rehabilitation andnutritional services.
- Develops a nursing care plan for assignedpatient on admission and updates the plan of care as needed.
Ensures the plan is discussed and developed as a result of thecoordination of patient and family and the interdisciplinary team
- Able to release, remove, and reapply restraints to patient.
Ensures patient. is in proper position and alignment.
- Documentspatient admission assessment and reassessments, patient care plans,and other pertinent information completely in the patient’selectronic medical record.
- Demonstrates correct use of Biomedicalequipment such as defibrillator, Suction machine, IV and feedingpumps, PCA pump, blood glucose monitoring machine.
- Demonstratessafe and effective delivery of patient care such as completingteam/patient assignments on time, making effective use of availabletime, showing initiative and team work.
- Obtains consents forprocedures and blood transfusions, ensuring patient has necessaryinformation to make an informed decision.
- Receives physician’sorders, ensures transcription is accurate, and order entry isaccurate. Follows through to ensure order is carried out.
- Recognizes and responds appropriately to patient change incondition such as Cardiac rhythm, respiratory distress, GI bleed,pulmonary emboli/ edema, diabetic Ketoacidosis, adverse drugreaction and Blood transfusion reaction, etc. Institutes emergencyaction, notifies physician, obtains orders, etc.
- Completes anddocuments patient admission assessment and reassessments asrequired according to policy.
- Reports pertinent observations andreaction regarding patients to the appropriate person (i.e.,physician, supervisor, charge nurse) and records these observationsaccurately.
- Administers medications with verbalized knowledge ofthe action, side effects, correct dosages and route according ICUpolicies and procedures.
- Demonstrates ability to recognize andInstitute arrhythmia protocol for the following Cardiac rhythmsV-tach, V-fib, PVC’s, asystole, 1st, 2nd and 3rd degree heartblock, atrial fibrillation, and atrial flutter.
- Directs,supervises, and evaluates nursing care provided to patients.
- Administers medications utilizing the seven rights of medicationadministration: right patient, route, time, medication, dose,reason and documentation.
- Assist physicians with special testsand procedures such as thoracentesis, paracentesis, arterial lineand bronchoscopy.
- Participates in economical utilization ofsupplies and ensures that equipment is maintained in a clean andsafe manner.
- Participates in orientation of new personnel andperformance evaluations of nursing staff.
- Assists team members ingiving care to patients or administers direct care whenprofessional nursing skills and judgment are needed.
- Coordinatesnursing care of patients when scheduled for therapy or proceduresby other departments.
- Assists with or institutes emergencymeasures for sudden adverse developments in patients such ascardiac arrest, respiratory arrest, or sepsis $20,000 Sign on

$64.55

- Graduatefrom an accredited Registered Nursing program
- Needs priorOperating Room OR experience
- No new grads at this timeLicenses/Certification
- Current state licensure as RegisteredNurse
- BCLS certification and ACLS required Experience
- Minimumone year training and experience in Critical Care
