Clinical Nurse Specialist (RN) – Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Portland, ME MaineHealth Maine Medical Center Full Time – Days This is a Bargaining Unit Position Sign-on Bonus up to $20k! MaineHealth is currently seeking an experienced and compassionate Clinical Nurse Specialist (RN) to join our NICU care team in Portland. The successful candidate will bring expertise in clinical nursing, patient care, and education to support the clinical staff, patients, and families at MaineHealth. The ideal applicant should have an advanced nursing degree (MSN or Doctorate), a current RN license with a minimum of two years of clinical nursing experience, and experience in a leadership role. Knowledge of regulatory standards and best practices for clinical staff is essential. This position also requires excellent problem solving, communication, and organizational skills. The Clinical Nurse Specialist will be a key member of the nursing team and Neonatal Intensive Care team, delivering quality patient care and education to the clinical staff. The successful candidate will have the ability to work collaboratively and independently to create an innovative and effective work environment. CNS Certification Required The NICU and Continuing Care Nursery in The Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital is a 51-bed level lll-lV unit. This is the largest ICU in the state of Maine. We have single rooms with state-of-the-art equipment and work closely with all disciplines- surgical, cardiac, GI, genetics, renal, palliative care etc. We have Neonatologists and APP’s covering 24/7 with a nursing staff of 150. We have an active critical care transport team and a nurse driven PICC Team. Neonatal Intensive Care Unit -31 beds & Continuing Care Nursery – 20 Beds.
Summary and Responsibilities:
The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) at Maine Medical Center (MMC) is an advanced practice nurse as defined by the Maine Nurse Practice Act and/or the ANA Advanced Practice Standards (1996). The mission of the CNS is to assure the provision of expert, quality, evidence-based care for patients and families in a variety of practice settings. The CNS also provides leadership in the development of staff, resources, and programs that support the MMC mission. The CNS partners with health care providers and management teams to develop and deliver quality health care to specific patient populations within and beyond MMC.
Job Qualifications and Requirements:
Education:
Knowledge of Nursing theory, practice and education in order to conduct patient assessments, develop and coordinate complex plans of care and to develop educational programs at a level acquired through completion of a Master’s Degree in an advanced practice clinical nursing specialty.
License/Certifications:
Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Maine and license for advanced practice in nursing if available. Certification in clinical specialty at the advance practice level (if applicable) is required.
Experience:
Two to three years of clinical experience in assigned specialty area. A high level of critical thinking skills, process and problem-solving skills, and systems knowledge necessary for participation in clinical initiatives. Interpersonal, communication and leadership skills sufficient to lead individuals and groups.
