Travel The Registered Nurse (RN) in theProgressive Care Unit (PCU) provides intermediate care for patientswho require a higher level of monitoring and treatment than in ageneral medical-surgical unit but do not require the intensive careprovided in an ICU. The RN in PCU delivers critical care topatients recovering from surgery, medical procedures, or acuteconditions, monitoring their progress and responding to changes inhealth status. The RN will work collaboratively with the healthcareteam to ensure the best possible outcomes for patients in the PCUsetting.

Key Responsibilities:
Patient Assessment:

Conductcomprehensive assessments of patients with moderate to high acuity,monitoring their physical and emotional needs. Continuouslyevaluate vital signs, lab results, and cardiac rhythms for anychanges that may indicate a need for intervention. Identifypotential risks and complications, such as arrhythmias, respiratorydistress, or post-operative issues, and act accordingly.

PatientCare and Monitoring:

Administer prescribed medications andtreatments, including IV medications, pain management, and bloodproducts. Monitor patients with telemetry, arterial lines, andother continuous monitoring devices, adjusting care as necessary.

Provide post-surgical care for patients who have undergone majorsurgery, including cardiovascular, neurological, or orthopedicprocedures. Manage patients with complex conditions, such as heartfailure, respiratory distress, and diabetes.

Collaboration:

Workclosely with physicians, nurse practitioners, and other healthcareprofessionals to develop and implement individualized care plans.

Participate in daily rounds and communicate with the team regardingpatient condition, response to treatments, and any changes in careplans.

Patient Education:

Educate patients and families about therecovery process, treatment plans, medications, and any requiredlifestyle changes. Provide guidance on managing chronic conditions,improving health, and preventing readmissions.

Documentation:

Accurately document all nursing interventions, patient assessments,outcomes, and any changes in condition using electronic healthrecords (EHR). Ensure compliance with all legal, regulatory, andhospital-specific documentation requirements.

Safety & InfectionControl:

Follow infection control protocols and use appropriatepersonal protective equipment (PPE) to minimize the risk ofhospital-acquired infections. Respond to changes in patientcondition quickly and appropriately, including initiating emergencyprocedures if needed.

Emergency Response:

Recognize and respondpromptly to emergencies, including code blue situations orsignificant changes in patient vital signs. Perform advanced lifesupport (ALS) or other emergency interventions as required.

Teamwork and Support:

Collaborate with PCU colleagues, supportstaff, and interdisciplinary teams to ensure safe and efficientpatient care. Serve as a resource to less experienced nursing staffand participate in mentoring or training initiatives.

Quality andCompliance:

Follow all hospital protocols and national standards tomaintain high-quality care, safety, and patient satisfaction.

Participate in quality improvement activities and patient safetyinitiatives to enhance patient outcomes. Magnet Medical Job
