Nurse Consultant I State of North Carolina – Dept of Transportation Nash County, NC Description of Work Salary Grade MH16 Position 65026279 is a Repost. The primary purpose of this position is to review medical records, statements from medical providers, and driving records to make determinations regarding the status of a citizen’s driving privileges. These determinations address whether it would be a hazard to public safety to allow the citizen to operate a motor vehicle. Decisions may include recommendations to issue, restrict, cancel or deny licensure. The determinations must be recorded concisely in the designated formats. This position is required to service customers regarding issues that require medical review for highway safety purposes and thus requires a thorough working knowledge of the laws, rules, and regulations related to driving privileges. This position must consistently demonstrate good medical knowledge, effective verbal and written communication skills and must be duly licensed to practice Nursing in the State of North Carolina. This position is also responsible for communicating effectively with other units across the Division regarding customers in the Medical Review Program. As workload permits, this position may also be tasked with performing other tasks necessary for the efficient, effective operation of the Medical Review Unit. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies Applicants must submit an application that clearly reflects work experience that demonstrates the following: Knowledge of medical terminology, disease process and body systems, current clinical diagnostic procedures and treatments, and pharmacology Knowledge of professional standards in nursing (including the nursing processes of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation) and the delivery of health care services in a variety of settings Demonstrated ability to communicate across a wide spectrum (customer/providers/colleagues) to interpret regulations, answer questions and respond to issues/complaints Demonstrated ability to make reasonable independent decisions based on professional analysis of medical records and notes. Computer skills such as Windows XP Professional, MS Office products, use of electronic mail and the internet, data management using folders, and import/export functions.
