Required Qualifications:
One year ofrecent experience as a PACU RN Valid RN license in compliance withstate regulations Current BLS (AHA/ARC) Certification ACLS(AHA/ARC) certification
Preferred Qualifications:
PALS (AHA/ARC) orENPC certifications Other certifications and licenses may berequired for this position
Summary:
The PACU (Post-Anesthesia CareUnit) Registered Nurse provides specialized care to patientsrecovering from anesthesia and surgery. This role involvesassessing patient recovery, implementing post-operative care plans,administering treatments, collaborating with the surgical team, andcoordinating care for discharging or transporting patients. ThePACU RN ensures patient safety and comfort during the criticalrecovery period, using advanced clinical skills, effectivecommunication, and adherence to professional and regulatorystandards.
Essential Work Functions:
Receive and conductcomprehensive assessments of patients transferring from theoperating room and assess their post-anesthesia condition Monitorsand evaluates patient’s vital signs, level of consciousness, andrecovery from anesthesia Administers prescribed medications andtreatments in accordance with approved post-anesthesia nursingtechniques Monitor and evaluate patient vital signs, level ofconsciousness, and response to anesthesia Maintains awareness ofcomfort and safety needs of recovering patients Observes anddocument patient conditions, treatments, and significant incidentsand responds to anesthesia and treatments, notifying the care teamof significant changes or adverse reactions Respond promptly toemergency situations utilizing PACU nursing standards, policies,procedures, and protocols Accurately document patient assessments,interventions, and recovery progress in the medical records Developand deliver individualized patient and family education plans,including detailed discharge instructions and recovery guidelinesCollaborates with the surgical team and other healthcare providersto ensure comprehensive post-operative care Participate in patienthandoff communications to ensure continuity of care between OR,PACU, and post-PACU units Operate and monitor PACU-specificequipment, such as ventilators, monitors, and infusion pumpsPerform other duties as assigned within the scope of practice
Required Essential Skills:
Critical thinking, service excellenceand good interpersonal communication skills The ability to read,write, & communicate in the English language is required Ability toread/comprehend written instructions, follow verbal instructions,and proficiency in PC skills Physical Abilities
- Remain in astationary position, move about, move equipment (50-100lbs),pushing, pulling, bending Interpersonal Skills
- To workeffectively with a variety of personnel (professional andancillary) to present a positive attitude and professionalismTechnical/Motor Skills
- Ability to grasp, fine manipulation,pushing/pulling and able to move about when assisting withprocedures and/or using department equipment. Mental Requirements
