POSITION SUMMARY :
The Registered Nurse Assessment Coordinator (RNAC) is responsible for timely completion of all Medicare/Medicaid case-mix documents in order to assure appropriate reimbursement for services provided within the facility. The RNAC will conduct concurrent Minimum Data Set (MDS) reviews to assure achievement of maximum allowable Resource Utilization Groups (RUGS) categories. She/he will integrate nursing, dietary, social, recreation, restorative, rehabilitation, and physician services to ensure appropriate reimbursement. Delivers or appropriately delegates the delivery of patient care and accurate documentation on a nursing unit as needed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
: Performs concurrent MDS reviews to ensure RUGS category is achieved through the capture of appropriate clinical information. Identifies the opportunities to enhance reimbursement. Tracks Medicare to determine continued and appropriate Medicare eligibility and benefit period by determining skilled level of need. Coordinates the case-mix management process. Collaborates with Business Office and Rehabilitation Team to review RUG reports and identify RUG categorization. Coordinates, communicates, and sustains an accurate MDS schedule for all residents per the Resident Assessment instrument (RAI) Manual. Audits clinical records documentation to validate the documentation supporting MDS coding. Manages and verifies MDS transmission process. Maintains a current and comprehensive knowledge of MDS and Medicare/Medicaid reimbursement. Serves as the facility resource for MDS/RUGs and State case-mix systems. Assists in the preparation of all requests from appropriate State and/or federal regulatory agencies or agent regarding payment of services (reconsideration, denials, appeals, etc.). Implements all required forms, procedures, and processes relative to job responsibilities. Willing to work weekdays as a registered nurse to provide desk support, medication administration or in a supervisory role on clinical units as needed. Willing to work weekends in emergencies when needs of patient care dictates. Performs other duties as requested by the department head. Employees may be required to perform additional work that follows prescribed or well-established procedures that can be learned within a reasonable time by training on the job. More detailed instructions will be given to employees at the beginning of work.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing and current RN licensure in the State of Pennsylvania. Minimum of five years of long-term care clinical nursing experience is preferred. Minimum of two years in the role of a RNAC is preferred. Must have a thorough knowledge of MDS components, completion schedules, and PPS regulations for Medicare and RUGs classification models for both Medicare and Medicaid systems. Possesses superior clinical assessment and documentation skills. Demonstrates excellent oral and written communication skills and presentation skills. Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well in a team environment and provides a positive attitude and direction. Must be knowledgeable in the regulations and guidelines that pertain to long-term care. Maintains a strong working knowledge of the RAI Manual. Must have knowledge and be proficient in the use of clinical computer software Must be proficient in the use of a personal computer.
