Regional Nurse Consultant Reliant HCS South Carolina Nurse Consultant Job Description Overview We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Regional Nurse Consultant, RN to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in nursing, with expertise in patient care and medical documentation. This role ensures quality patient care, regulatory compliance, and the implementation of best nursing practices across all facilities. The Regional Nurse Consultant will work collaboratively with healthcare providers to enhance the quality of care delivered to patients. The RNC acts as a resource and mentor to facility nursing teams, particularly Directors of Nursing (DONs), helping to maintain and improve clinical standards and outcomes. Responsibilities Monitor and support nursing operations in assigned facilities to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, policies, and procedures. Stay current on changes in healthcare regulations, nursing practices, and standards of care. Provide guidance and mentorship to facility Directors of Nursing and clinical staff. Support new DON and Staff Developer/Clinical Educator through onboarding and orientation processes. Evaluate and assess patient care practices to ensure adherence to established standards. Conduct clinical audits and assessments to identify risks, quality improvement opportunities, and training needs. Analyze clinical data (e.g., falls, infections, pressure ulcers) to identify trends and drive improvements. Assist with survey readiness, participate in mock surveys, and support post-survey corrective action plans. Provide guidance on medical documentation requirements and best practices. Review medical records for accuracy and compliance with HIPAA regulations. Assist with the implementation of electronic medical records (EMR) and other clinical systems. Collaborate with facility leadership to develop and implement action plans for quality improvement. Educate staff on anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology relevant to patient care. Conduct training sessions for healthcare personnel on effective patient care techniques. Travel frequently to facilities within the region, providing on-site and remote support.
Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) required; Master’s degree preferred.
Licensure:
Current and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in South Carolina and/or North Carolina. Requirements At least 2 years in a management or consultant role in long-term care, skilled nursing, or related healthcare settings. Minimum of 5 years of clinical nursing experience. Registered Nurse (RN) license required. Strong knowledge of physiology and anatomy. Experience in patient care settings with a focus on quality improvement. Proficient in medical documentation and familiar with electronic medical records systems. Understanding of medical terminology and HIPAA compliance standards. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment. Skills Strong leadership and coaching abilities. Excellent knowledge of federal and state nursing regulations (e.g., CMS, state-specific guidelines). Proficient in EMR systems and Microsoft Office Proficient in medical documentation and maintaining accurate medical records. Ability to analyze data and create actionable plans. Strong understanding of patient care principles and practices. In-depth knowledge of anatomy and physiology relevant to nursing. Familiarity with medical terminology used in clinical settings. Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration with healthcare professionals with the ability to build positive relationships Ability to adhere to HIPAA regulations while managing sensitive patient information.
Preferred Attributes:
Certified in Infection Control (CIC), Gerontological Nursing, or Quality Assurance. Experience with change management and performance improvement strategies. Demonstrated ability to lead interdisciplinary teams. Working Frequent travel (typically 75-90%) required within the assigned region. Must be able to work in a fast-paced, multi-location environment.
