Job Description

  • Welcome patient and family members in a professional and friendly manner. Contact nursing staff for emergency medical needs.
  • Interview patients to obtain all necessary demographic, insurance, emergency contact information.
  • Go into patient rooms or exam rooms as required to gather all necessary registration information and documents.
  • Scan copies of picture ID and insurance card(s) into account.
  • Verify all insurance coverages.
  • Assign insurance plans accurately in the account.
  • Ensure that all necessary signatures are obtained.
  • Ensure that a patient wrist band is placed on the patient’s wrist.
  • Request payment for services rendered according to collection policies.
  • Post payments collected into the correct account via Cash Drawer assigned and provide the patient with a receipt. Maintain the integrity of the cash drawer.
  • Answer any questions and explain policies regarding services, charges, insurance billing and payment of account.
  • Produce paperwork for each patient for distribution to appropriate departments. Align pertinent documents for establishing the patient’s medical record and financial file.
  • Ensure charts are complete and accurate.
  • All other duties, as assigned.

  • Registrar is cross trained on Outpatient Registrar and ER Registrar duties.

  • demonstrates knowledge and understanding of organizational policies, procedures and systems.
  • Basic skills
  • able to perform basic mathematical calculations, balance and reconcile cash drawer, use correct grammar & spelling and transcribe accurately.
EDUCATION

High school diploma or GED required.

EXPERIENCE

At least one year of registration experience preferred. Good computer skills are required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Requires prolonged sitting, some bending, stooping and stretching.

Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator and other office equipment. Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare and communicate appropriate reports. Requires lifting papers or boxes up to 50 lbs. occasionally. Work is performed in an office environment. Work may be stressful at times. Contact may involve dealing with angry or upset people.
