Speech Language Pathologist Assistant (10 Month)
Summary
Assists students with special communicative needs to use the maximum communication possible. The employee is responsible for assisting identified speech-language delayed/impaired students to achieve their communicative potential both receptively through listening comprehension and/or expressively through oral expression. Required education, training, and experience
Associate’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology Assisting
Essential duties and responsibilities
Knowledge of anatomy and physiology, normal communication development, phonetics, developmental psychology, various types of disabilities seen in students and various speech-language disorders and approaches to therapeutic educational intervention, and roles of supervising speech-language pathologists and assistants
Administer screening protocols
Escort students to and from testing or therapy area
Administer therapeutic treatment protocols written by the speech-language pathologist
Communicate effectively with students, families, and other professionals to meet the needs of students
Obtain case histories and complete observation checklists
Manage behavior using appropriately designed management techniques
Summarize and record target behavior during therapy sessions
Perform clerical and administrative functions
Prepare and maintain accurate student data and records
Tabulate and score tests
Arrange the clinical-educational setting to maintain a safe and positive environment.
Manage, operate, program, and/or monitor clinical-educational equipment and materials, including assistive listening devices, augmentative communication devices, voice equipment, and computer-based equipment and software

Requires the ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagrammatic form.
Requires the ability to record and deliver information, explain procedures, to follow oral and written instructions. Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently in a variety of technical or professional languages including medical, legal, and counseling terminology.
