Job Description

Sterile Processing Technician Responsibilities Receiving, sorting, cleaning and decontaminating soiled reusable instruments, equipment and materials following manufacturer’s instructions. Manually recording items/materials received in department logs. Loading, operating, and emptying cleaning and decontamination equipment such as automatic washers, endoscope reprocesses, cart washer and pasteurizers Inspecting, preparing and sterilizing surgical instruments and other materials. Assembling trays and packets of instruments, medical supplies for surgical procedures according to standardized content lists and manufacturers guidelines. Loading and operating sterilizers, programming settings and monitors temperature and other critical readings during run cycle May be asked to assume responsibility for leadership in the department in the absence of and/or in conjunction with CPD Manager. Plans, organizes and oversees daily operations. Monitoring work flow and prioritizing work assignments to meet established schedules and clinical requirements. Responding to customer requests and resolving problems as needed May be assigned the charge role in the department. Managing the department work environment per established policy and procedures. Insuring safety of all personnel on duty. Prioritizing work production based on changing needs. Assessing, planning and implementing shift activities. Communicating and collaborating with shift personnel, department managers, OR staff and other personnel. Ensuring all required documentation is completed and accurate. Using all available resources to assist with problem solving and decision making. Trouble shooting and problem solving Essential Skills Certification of Sterile/Central Processing is required A high school degree or GED equivalent is required Minimum of 2 years’ experience within Sterile Processing is strongly preferred A strong knowledge of instrumentation and power surgical instruments Strong customer service and communication skills to develop working relationships with staff Strong problem solving skills The ability to work independently and as a team player Flexibility and the willingness to change assignments due to department needs
