Job Summary:

The Central Supply Technician is responsible forthe cleaning, processing, and sterilization of surgicalinstrumentation, patient care equipment and re-useablemedical/surgical items. This position also functions as a Case CartAttendant for the Operating Room. Essential Generic Job Functions(List in order of importance): 1. Receives, sorts, processes,assembles or sterilizes both patient care equipment and surgicalinstruments according to established departmental policies. 2.Understands all detergents and disinfectants used to process items.

Implements both Universal Precautions and proper use of P.P.E. 3.Operates and loads sterilizers (Steam, ETO, Sterrad and Steris) andassures biological tests and Bowie Dick tests are correctlyperformed, incubated, read and recorded. 4. Assures sterilizationrecords are completed correctly by recording all item processed,making sure the correct label/load gun is used, reading andinterpreting chemical integrator per load, observing and initialingall computerized print outs for accuracy. 5. Adheres to correct useof computerized instrument count sheets. 6. Prepares case carts fordelivery to room by using doctor’s preference information toassemble required instruments, drugs and special equipment. 7.Notifies nursing team in room of missing items and confers withcoordinator about shortages of supplies and equipment and completesa daily checklist. 8. Lifts a minimum of 50 lbs., pushes and pullsa minimum of 60 lbs. and stands length of shift. 9. Adheres to thestandards identified in the Medical Center’s OrganizationalCompetencies.
