Work where you matter. ABrief Overview Assists the physician and nursing staff both in theOperating Room and Clinic with procedures and patient care asneeded. What you will do Prepares the Operating Room for surgicalprocedures in a timely fashion. This may include, not be limitedto: organizing equipment and needed instruments; setting up quicklyand accurately for emergency cases; assuring proper and adequateequipment for all cases. Assists the surgeon as the first or secondscrub person during surgical procedures. Maintains a sterile fieldat all times in the procedure area. Maintains efficiency inhandling surgical instruments at physician’s request. Verifiesspecimens with surgeons and nurses. Assists the circulating nurseto account for all instruments, needles, and sponges involved withthe surgical procedure. Achieves and maintains working knowledge ofall OR machinery and equipment used on the sterile field (i.e.,lasers, scope equipment, and electric and nitrogen motors).Receives and verifies correct implants for all surgical procedures(i.e., grafts, orthopedic hardware, allograft etc.). Assists withon-the-job training and orientation of new staff and students.

Assists in transporting of patients to the O.R. when necessary.

Performs decontamination, assembly and sterilization, according toInfection Control and established QA monitoring guidelines asdemonstrated by annual competency review.

Operates sterilizationequipment which includes:

steam and hydrogen peroxide sterilizers,ultrasonic cleaner, washer/sterilizer, and automated cart washer.

Operates equipment according to manufacturer operational directionsand in a manner that ensures the safety of the operator asdemonstrated by annual competency review. Utilizes desktop andlaptop computers and handheld PDA for instrument decontamination,assembly and tracking functions. Essential Qualifications Theindividual must be able to work the hours specified. To performthis job successfully, an individual must be able to perform eachessential job function satisfactorily including having visualacuity adequate to perform position duties and the ability tocommunicate effectively with others, hear, understand anddistinguish speech and other sounds. Required Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience:

Technical Certificate Completion of an accredited SurgicalTechnician program

Preferred Education, License/Certification, orWork Experience:
