Typical Schedule:

This job usually takes place Monday through Friday, following a regular school schedule. The time Range of this job is from 6:00 AM CST – 2:00 PM CST and can vary by Business Needs.

Job Overview:

Messina’s Catering & Events, a leading provider of culinary services, is seeking dedicated individuals to join our team as School Lunch Attendants. Partnered with several schools in the Greater New Orleans region, Messina’s is committed to delivering high-quality, nutritious meals to students. The School Lunch Attendant plays a vital role in ensuring students receive nutritious and enjoyable meals during the school day. This position involves various tasks related to food preparation, serving, and maintaining a clean and organized cafeteria environment. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, reliable, and able to work efficiently in a fast-paced school setting.

General Responsibilities:

Prepare and serve meals to students according to school lunch menus and guidelines. Assist in food preparation tasks such as cutting fruits, heating food items, and assembling plates. Ensure food items are properly stored and maintained at appropriate temperatures. Maintain cleanliness and sanitation standards in the cafeteria and kitchen areas, including washing dishes and sanitizing surfaces. Monitor food inventory levels and assist in restocking supplies as needed. Follow safety protocols and procedures to prevent accidents and injuries. Provide excellent customer service to students and staff, addressing any concerns or special dietary needs.

Job Qualifications Experience/Knowledge:

High school diploma or equivalent. Previous experience in food service or hospitality is highly desirable, with preference given to candidates who have worked in school cafeteria settings or similar environments. Familiarity with basic food preparation techniques, including safe handling of kitchen equipment and ingredients. Knowledge of food safety regulations and sanitation standards, including proper storage and temperature control. Understanding of dietary requirements and allergies commonly encountered in school-aged children, along with the ability to accommodate special dietary needs. Proficiency in following recipes and portioning food items according to serving sizes specified by school lunch menus. Experience working collaboratively in a team-oriented environment, with the ability to communicate effectively with coworkers, school staff, and students. Willingness to undergo additional training as required, including certification in food safety and handling if not already obtained.

Skills/Aptitude:

Ability to pass a background check as required by school district policies. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Basic knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Flexibility to adapt to changing schedules and tasks. Physical stamina to stand for extended periods and lift/move heavy objects if required.

License/Qualifications:

Ability to pass a background check as required by school policies.

None. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Basic knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Flexibility to adapt to changing schedules and tasks. Physical stamina to stand for extended periods and lift/move heavy objects if required.

Physical Requirements:

Close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus, with or without corrective lenses. Significant walking or other means of mobility. Ability to stand for extended periods and move around the cafeteria and kitchen areas. Dexterity to operate kitchen equipment and utensils safely and effectively. Stamina to perform repetitive tasks such as chopping, slicing, and serving food items. Flexibility to bend, stoop, and reach overhead while performing cleaning and restocking duties. Visual acuity and auditory perception necessary to detect potential hazards and communicate with colleagues and students. Physical agility to navigate crowded areas and respond promptly to any emergencies or spills. Ability to reach, bend, stoop, push and/or pull, and frequently lift up to 35 pounds and occasionally lift/move 50 pounds.

Working Conditions:

Generally, in an indoor setting. Schedule includes weekdays based on the needs of the business. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is primarily in a controlled, temperate environment; however, may be exposed to heat/cold. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. Ability to work well in a team-oriented environment. Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
