FRANKLIN COUNTY FOOD SERVICE WORKER
(Part-time) Position Description Non-Exempt
OVERALL OBJECTIVE OF JOB
To oversee nutrition services at a Senior Activity Center; for both the Congregate and Home Delivered Meal programs, to ensure that all food items are prepared, staged, served and properly stored, and to monitor or assist in monitoring the overall activities of a Senior Activity Center and its participants.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF JOB 1.
Oversees storage and handling of food for Center meal programs, assuring its quality, sanitary and safe condition. 2. Checks temperatures of food items when necessary to comply with food safety regulations. 3. Assists and monitors others in the packaging of food for home deliveries and preparing and staging food for congregate meals. Delivers meals to homebound consumers as necessary. 4. Works with the help of volunteers to serve meals to consumers at Center. 5. Washes dishes and sterilizes utensils. 6. Sweeps floor, rugs and maintains clean and safe appearance in kitchen areas. 7. Utilizes steam table, microwave, oven, stove, coffee pots and other appliances in preparation or maintaining temperature of food. 8. Cleans refrigerator, appliances and ensures overall cleanliness and sanitary conditions within kitchen.
OTHER DUTIES OF JOB 1.
Attends training, meetings or in-services as required. 2. Performs other job-related duties as required 3. Oversees operation of Senior Center during absence of Center Manager

Receives training and instruction from both Senior Center Director and Senior Activity Center Manager in regard to daily work duties.

WORKING CONDITIONS 1.
Works indoors in atmosphere where there may be noise from machinery, fans or other equipment and floors and surfaces are sometimes wet. 2. Works in fast-paced environment, requiring quick, efficient production of food for large groups. 3. Alternately exposed to normal and sometimes warmer than normal temperatures for varying periods of time throughout the workday. 4. Exposed to water, detergents and cleaning agents daily. 5. Often works in limited spaces where stooping, bending, twisting and overhead reaching are necessary, or in environments or venues outside the routine worksite. 6. Works in an environment where regular interaction with multiple persons is required.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL CONDITIONS 1.
Must be able to stand and walk throughout the shift, with intermittent periods of lifting, pushing/pulling, kneeling, stooping, bending, reaching (including overhead reaching) as needed to carry out essential job duties. 2. Dexterity requirements range from coordinated and simultaneous use of hands, wrists and fingers to simple movements of feet/legs/torso as necessary to carry out essential job duties. 3. Medium work, with frequent lifting of containers, equipment, trays or boxes of food ranging in weights from ten to fifty pounds. 4 Must possess agility and mobility and be able to move frequently throughout the work shift as necessary to carry out essential job duties. 5. Must possess visual acuity close to normal range. 6. Must possess the ability to record, convey and present information, explain procedures and follow instructions. 7. Must possess the ability to use a computer to record center data, communicate via email , and complete and transmit time sheets and other daily center data electronically.
QUALIFICATIONS A. EDUCATION/TRAINING
High school diploma or equivalent.
B. WORK EXPERIENCE
None required; experience in restaurant or other food service environments requiring interaction with groups and volunteers preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED 1.
Must be able to speak and understand the English language in an understandable manner in order to carry out essential functions of job. 2. Must possess good communication and interpersonal skills in dealing with elderly, staff and volunteers. 3. Must possess ability to function independently, have flexibility and the ability to work effectively with co-workers, staff, volunteers and others. 4. Must possess knowledge and ability to perform basic math calculations with or without calculator in preparing food orders. 5. Must possess positive attitude and demonstrate enthusiasm for the Senior Center programs and services to elderly. 6. Must maintain a high standard of cleanliness, both personally and throughout the program. 7. Must possess knowledge of safety rules, have the ability to follow safety rules, be willing to receive certification in CPR, First Aid and AED administration, and know how to respond in an emergency. 8. Must possess knowledge of efficient care and use of all equipment 9. Must possess knowledge and skill in use of all equipment and preparation of all food served within the program. 10. Must complete required food safety training; possess knowledge of health and safety standards for safe use of food products and the policies and regulations of the food service program.
