Prep Cook / Cheesemonger in Training Cherry Street Cheese & Provisions 149 Cherry St, New Canaan, CT 06840 Job Overview Cherry Street Cheese & Provisions is seeking a rising star in the specialty food business to join our small team. This is a unique position where you will get to experience everything from back of the house, food prep including making artisan sandwiches and prepared gourmet foods to front of the house, learning about our farmstead cheeses and supporting our customers with finding their perfect flavors. We believe in finding really good people and giving them lots of opportunity to grow and develop. This could look like anything from sponsorship to become a Certified Cheese Professional to internships / trainings with cheese makers and more. Duties Prepare grilled cheeses, baguette and panini sandwiches for our lunch service Prepare other menu items including dips, soups, and meats as directed by our chef Depending on experience, help support new receipe development for gourmet-to-go items Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen workspace, including proper storage of food items. Follow all food safety guidelines and regulations to ensure the highest quality of food service. Become familiar with all the artisan cheeses, charcuterie and other gourmet products Greet customers and help them find the cheeses and other product they need Help keep shelves stocked and support the inventory ordering process Experience Previous experience in a restaurant / food service or grocery Knowledge of food safety practices and culinary techniques Familiarity with kitchen equipment and tools used in food preparation Strong organizational skills and ability to work efficiently under pressure Ability to describe flavors and/or experience with cheese is a plus!
