06/27/2025 The Palmerton Area School District is seeking a part-time custodian.

The candidate selected for this position will work 29.5 hours per week and will be assigned to provide custodial coverage in all buildings across the district. Applicants must submit an application, Act 34 Criminal, Act 151 Child Abuse and Act 114 FBI Fingerprinting clearances. Position Summary:

Responsible to service assigned facilities on a daily basis by maintaining a safe, clean, and sanitary facility and perform light maintenance as required but not limited to the prompt repair of furniture, hardware, lighting, and other items necessary for the daily operation of the facilities

Qualifications:
Education/Experience :

High School Diploma or GED Maintain valid PA driver’s license Minimum two (2) years of custodial experience in a commercial and institution setting, preferred

Skills/Knowledge :

Ability to work independently and multi-task Ability to follow a set schedule Ability to be flexible while demonstrating patience and professional demeanor Ability to communicate with staff and visitors with patience and understanding Ability to effectively communicate with students, staff, visitors, administrators, and general public Ability to establish and maintain positive working relations with all staff Ability to work with staff in the performance of tasks Knowledge of characteristics of supplies and materials and alternative techniques commonly used in institutional housekeeping and routine maintenance Competency in filling out requisitions and related forms and in conducting inventories of equipment, supplies, and products Ability to read and comprehend work orders, schedules, and/or written instructions or correspondence Possess or willingness to learn basic electrical, plumbing, and/or HVAC maintenance Ability to use fractions in both linear and liquid measurement

Physical :

Ability to utilize chemicals and equipment to perform custodian maintenance duties Ability to climb ladder, scaffold, and operate lift platform to high elevations Ability to operate floor buffer/scrubber, vacuum, snow blower, hand tools, and various pieces of equipment Ability to operate lawn mower, weed eater, and various ground keeping equipment Ability to push and pull/move equipment Ability to carry out shipping and receiving duties of the building, including but not limited to, assisting with deliveries and unloading trucks Must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull a weight of up to 55 pounds, carry it up to 100 yards, and to lift it to shoulder height Must be able to reach over the head to retrieve objects to perform maintenance tasks Must be able to crawl into and work in confined spaces to do repairs Must be able to operate and pull equipment such as a hydraulic lift with up to a 1000-pound load with assistance Must be able to stoop and bend Must be able to shovel snow Must be able to work in all weather elements

Functions/Duties/Responsibilities:

Essential:

Provide cleaning services to all assigned areas of the facilities in accordance with district standards and schedules Maintain building and supply inventory and reorder supplies as needed in accordance with district standards Set up (prepare) facilities for all activities Perform minor maintenance and report larger maintenance items for repair Provide for the movement and coordination of equipment Observe and control boilers and other plant equipment and systems Provide routine maintenance to facility hardware in accordance with district standards Repair furniture and fixture items as necessary (desks, dispensers, etc.) Provide seasonal exterior care in accordance with district standards including, but not limited to, winter elements, leaves, or debris Under direction of the Building Principal provide services on an occasional basis Promote work safety by reviewing and following district’s safety policies and procedures Secure facilities in accordance with district standards Daily inspection of perimeter of building including, but not limited to, maintenance needs and security concerns

Secondary:

Perform all tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of District Facilities, Lead Custodian, and/or Building Principal On-call for evening and weekend emergencies that may arise at district facilities
