Primary Function of Organizational Unit North Carolina Cooperative Extension gives our residence easy access to the resources and expertise of NC State University and NC A&T State University. Through educational programs, publications, and events, Cooperative Extension field faculty deliver unbiased, research based information to North Carolina citizens.
Lenoir County, NC is centrally located in eastern NC approximately 75 miles east of Raleigh (our state’s capital) and 75 miles west of Morehead City (one of our seaports and the beautiful crystal coast). This position provides leadership for the development, implementation and evaluation of an effective educational program to meet the needs of the county population in the following areas of responsibility: field crops (tobacco, corn, cotton, peanut, small grains and soybeans) and pesticide education. This position will function as the county pesticide coordinator and be responsible for providing educational training opportunities for private, public, and commercial operators to obtain and maintain their licenses. The agent will be expected to develop specific educational programs and to collaborate with other agencies, groups, and organizations in order to more effectively reach intended audiences throughout the county.
The successful candidate is expected to be a team player working with the Extension staff and other organizations, possess a high degree of subject matter competence, possess excellent oral and written communication skills, and have the ability to work independently.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education:
A bachelor’s degree in agronomy or related area of science is preferred; a related Master’s degree is preferred. Travel within the county is required. Some travel within the state and district is required. Travel will be reimbursed following state guidelines. Knowledge and experience in communications, presentation, public relations/marketing, leadership, time management, organization, technology, networking, and resource development is essential.
Necessary Licenses or Certifications:
Valid driver’s license and reliable personal transportation required and must be maintained. In order to operate a state vehicle, a valid driver’s license is required and must be maintained.
