Job Summary:
The Job Skills Trainer plays a crucial role in preparing individuals for employment by providing hands-on training, career coaching, and job readiness skills. This position focuses on equipping participants with the necessary skills to succeed in the workforce, including technical skills, soft skills, and industry-specific competencies. The trainer will work with diverse populations, including unemployed individuals, career changers, and those facing employment barriers.
Key Responsibilities:
Training & Instruction:
- Develop and deliver engaging job readiness training programs, including resume writing, interview techniques, workplace communication, and professional etiquette.
- Provide hands-on instruction for industry-specific skills, such as customer service, basic computer skills, healthcare, construction, or manufacturing (as applicable).
- Conduct one-on-one coaching sessions to assess individual skill levels and tailor training plans accordingly.
- Facilitate workshops on career development, time management, and problem-solving in the workplace.
Program Development & Support:
- Collaborate with workforce development partners, employers, and community organizations to ensure training aligns with labor market demands.
- Assist in the development of curriculum, training materials, and assessment tools. Learn and Implement the Passport to Success program.
- Track and monitor participant progress, providing support to help them overcome barriers to employment.
- Connect participants with job placement opportunities, apprenticeships, or internships.
Participant Engagement & Career Coaching:
- Offer personalized career counseling, goal setting, and job search strategies.
- Support individuals in developing and improving workplace behaviors, including teamwork, adaptability, and professionalism.
- Conduct mock interviews and provide constructive feedback to improve participant confidence.
- Assist with job applications, online profiles, and networking strategies.
Administrative & Compliance Responsibilities:
- Maintain accurate records of participant progress, attendance, and outcomes.
- Prepare reports for grant funders and program stakeholders as needed.
- Ensure compliance with workforce development program policies and funding requirements.
- Stay updated on labor market trends and emerging industry needs.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Workforce Development, Education, Human Resources, Social Work, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 2+ years of experience in workforce development, job coaching, or adult education.
- Strong facilitation and public speaking skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
- Knowledge of job search strategies, career development tools, and employment trends.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, job search platforms, and virtual training tools.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred:
- Experience working with individuals facing employment barriers, such as those with disabilities, justice-involved individuals, or those experiencing homelessness.
- Certification in career coaching, workforce development, or vocational training.
- Familiarity with workforce funding programs such as WIOA (Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act).
- Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
Work Environment:
- Combination of in-office, remote, and on-site training locations.
- Some travel may be required for community outreach, employer engagement, or training sessions.
