June and July Position Summary:
Seeking a compassionate, organized, and knowledgeable Academic Counselor to support high school students in achieving their academic, college, and career goals. The Academic Counselor will provide guidance and support in academic planning, post-secondary preparation, and social-emotional development, ensuring all students are on a pathway to success.
Key Responsibilities:
Academic Planning and Support Guide students in developing and monitoring four-year academic plans aligned with graduation requirements and post-secondary goals. Assist students in course selection and scheduling, including enrollment in advanced, elective, and credit recovery courses. Identify and support students who are struggling academically and collaborate with teachers, families, and support staff to implement interventions. College and Career Readiness Provide information and resources on college admissions, vocational programs, military options, scholarships, and financial aid. Assist students with college applications, essay writing, and career exploration activities. Organize and facilitate college fairs, campus visits, and career days. Assist in the Junior and Senior Seminar Classes Weekly providing guidance regarding the national testing /exams and the college application process. Social-Emotional and Behavioral Support Provide short-term individual counseling or group sessions to address student needs such as stress, motivation, and peer relationships. Collaborate with mental health professionals, school staff, and families to support students with social-emotional or behavioral challenges. Participate in multidisciplinary teams such as IEP, 504, and student support teams. Record Keeping and Compliance Maintain accurate student records, including academic plans, transcripts, and counseling documentation. Ensure compliance with graduation requirements, state regulations, and district policies. Monitor credit accrual and graduation status for all grade levels. Collaboration and Communication Serve as a liaison among students, teachers, parents, administrators, and community partners. Actively participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and counseling department initiatives. Promote a positive school culture that emphasizes equity, inclusion, and high expectations for all students.
Qualifications:
Required:
Master’s Degree in School Counseling or a related field. Valid school counselor certification/license as required by the state. Strong knowledge of academic advising, college/career readiness, and social-emotional learning. Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Preferred:
Experience in a high school counseling setting. Familiarity with student information systems (e.g., Infinite Campus), Naviance, or similar platforms. Bilingual abilities are a plus.
Work Conditions:
Ability to work flexible hours during peak seasons (e.g., college application deadlines, graduation audits). Regular interactions with students, staff, and families in office, classroom, and event settings.
