Additional Considerations
Before advancing in the application and interview process, prospective candidates must understand that our educational approach at Vance County Early College High School (VCEC) differs significantly from that of traditional high schools. As a designated North Carolina Cooperative Innovative High School (CIHS), we are committed to designing and implementing instructional, assessment, and support systems that reflect evidence-based best practices. These practices are grounded in current educational research and are intended to ensure students are thoroughly prepared for both postsecondary education and the workforce.
Accordingly, it is essential that VCEC team members understand and fully embrace a set of professional expectations aligned with the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) CIHS model. Applicants are strongly encouraged to review the following sections carefully and to reflect on their willingness and ability to consistently uphold and implement these principles in their professional practice at VCEC.

CIHS Principles:

Schools that prepare all students for college, careers, and life share more than high graduation rates. They share a set of expectations and effective practices captured by six essential principles, which guide our work and provide a foundation for effective change.

These principles include:

Belief in a common set of high standards and expectations that ensures every student graduates ready for college.
Uphold common standards for high-quality, rigorous instruction that promote powerful teaching and learning.
Demonstrate personalization — educators must know students well to help them achieve academically.
Redefine professionalism by creating a shared vision, so that all school staff take responsibility for the success of every student.
Work from a purposeful design where the use of time, space, and resources ensures that best practices become common practice.
Empower shared leadership embedded in a culture of high expectations and a collaborative work environment to ensure the success of each student.
