The above reflects the anticipated hourly range for this position if hired to work in New Jersey. The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate’s educational background, skills and professional experience.

Job Overview:

The Peer Support Staff works with BA Clinicians and provides daily support to consumers with case management, advocacy, and support for mental health, substance abuse, and/or medical needs in a culturally sensitive and patient-centered manner.

Qualifications:
Required:

HS Diploma or equivalent Valid NJ Driver’s license Relevant life experience: lived experience with mental health treatment and/or in recovery and comfortable sharing your journey Experience as a Peer Advocate, Counselor or Specialist Knowledge and understanding of urban issues, hospital procedures, community resources Commitment to working with clients with compassion and empathy for underserved populations Able to work in stressful situations and problem solve Good communication and interpersonal skills Computer literacy Punctual and reliable

Preferred:

1 year experience working as a Peer Advocate, Counselor or Specialist Bilingual in

Spanish or Haitian Creole Scheduling Requirements:

Shift working, 8:30-4:30pm each day

Monday-Friday FT Essential Functions:

Models ongoing coping and treatment strategies by sharing personal story as part of mentorship Provides feedback to team related to consumer progress/barriers and makes recommendations for treatment compliance Documents contacts and progress Facilitates peer support groups for consumers and families Provides direct coaching, education and advocacy in linking, engaging and retaining consumers in services identified in the service plan Accompanies consumers to appointments Maintains compliance with all organizational policies and procedures Assists in the selection and utilization of self-help tools Provide pre-crisis and crisis support services as needed Maintains compliance with all organizational policies and procedures Attends staff meetings, workshops, trainings and supervision Other responsibilities as assigned by management
