June 22, 2025 The Downtown Communications and Events Coordinator is responsible for proactively promoting Historic Downtown Statesville to foster a positive image, attract investment, and drive economic growth. This role involves utilizing communications, advertising, and special events to increase foot traffic, investment, and sales in the downtown area. Responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing downtown events, as well as recruiting, training, and managing volunteers to ensure successful event operations. The position aims to strengthen community engagement, position downtown as the vibrant social, cultural, and commercial heart of the community, and support its ongoing commercial success and vitality.

Plan, implement, evaluate, and grow special events that drive people downtown and make downtown the commercial, social, and cultural hub of Statesville.

Assist in facilitating, planning, implementing, managing, evaluating, and refining a year-round, comprehensive, and strategic marketing and communications plan that promotes Historic Downtown Statesville as a neighborhood and destination, as well as an effective one-stop downtown organization. Ensure that Downtown Statesville Development Corporation’s (DSDC) mission and vision are used to set the direction of all programs.

Create marketing campaigns, both general/year-round and specific/holiday.

Promote Historical Downtown Statesville as a place for organizations to hold their special events. Recruit and develop partnerships for additional special events to be held downtown. Assist with resources, including logistics and marketing.

Proactively manage and support volunteers and help build successful volunteer recognition programs.

Staff the DSDC Promotions Committee and other committees and teams as assigned following the Main Street framework.

Direct the design, production, and distribution of all marketing collateral for newspapers, radio, television, cable, and social media. This includes posters, flyers, brochures, and e-marketing materials.

Manage the redesign of the website; manage the website and its content on an ongoing basis. Provide methods for community interaction.

Seek, hire, and manage suppliers, resources, contractors, and consultants as needed and as budget allows.

Assist in developing budgets for all marketing and communications initiatives and events.

Monitor and initiate best practices in downtown marketing and communications.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Related Physical RequirementsThis position involves sedentary work requiring the employee to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and less force frequently to move objects. Physical activity related to this position includes the use of fingers and hands, walking, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions. Sufficient visual acuity is required to prepare and analyze data and figures, do extensive reading, and use a computer terminal.

Working ConditionsThe ability and willingness to work evenings/nights, holidays, and/or weekends for special events and meetings as necessary outside of normal working hours. The employee is not subject to adverse environmental conditions.
