We are seeking a dedicated Youth Prevention Ambassador to join our team. The ideal candidate will be passionate about working with youth in the Town of Irondequoit in a peer-to-peer capacity for the purpose of education and positive engagement for substance use prevention. The YPA will take part in community outreach during events as well as participating in activity planning, promotion, and meetings for Uplift Irondequoit’s youth committee. Must be able to use effective time management, creativity, and initiative to assist the organization in its goal of meaningfully engaging youth in substance use prevention. The YPA is an hourly position (approximately 5-10 hours/week) and will not overlap with school hours. The schedule for this job is flexible and the candidate will need to be able to adapt to the needs of the organization. Youth committee meetings and community events, which are both requirements of this position, may occur in the afternoon or evening hours with infrequent weekend hours. Must have reliable transportation within Irondequoit and surrounding communities. This is a grant funded position, scheduled to conclude by December 2026 with the opportunity for extension.

Responsibilities:

1. Assist in the development of the Uplift youth committee, focused on engaging youth in Irondequoit on substance use prevention projects. Collaborate with Uplift staff, community partners and coalition members to plan and promote youth committee meetings, activities, and opportunities. Communicate effectively to youth, parents, and stakeholders. Engage youth ages 12-18 in the Town of Irondequoit to participate in substance use prevention projects. 2. Collaborate with youth committee members, Uplift staff, and partners to complete youth-based projects. Support youth committee members in developing project ideas and moving these ideas to implementation. Track progress of the youth committee and associated projects. Assist with capacity building as needed. 3. Assist in conducting community outreach at events and other tabling opportunities as well as through use of media. Distribution of materials, set up and take down at events, working with volunteers, and engaging youth, families, and community members in activities/conversations about prevention. Participate in planning educational activities. Assist in making educational or promotional media for socials, website, or print formats. 4. Attendance at Youth Committee meetings. 5. Maintenance and organization of materials related to the coalition. 6. Attendance at any training deemed necessary.

Qualifications:

1. Minors (individuals under 18 years old) must have a valid work permit to work in New York State. 2. Applicants should be friendly/outgoing, punctual, responsible, creative, strong public speakers, and deeply connected to the community (such as through community or school activities, volunteering, or other engagements). 3. Excellent organizational skills, written and oral communication skills. 4. Highly proficient in Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, Word, Canva, social media, etc. 5. Must be able to lift at least 35 lbs Reports to: Program Director, secondarily to the personnel committee.
