PRIMARY FUNCTION
: Assist students, families, and school/school system personnel to overcome barriers that interfere with learning through assessment, crisis intervention, and coordination of community services.
QUALIFICATIONS
: Degree in Social Work Master (or higher) degree in Social Work, preferred Eligible for certification in School Social Work Minimum three (3) years of experience in a Social Work setting, preferred School Social Work experience, preferred
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
: Provide social services to schools and the school system Visit schools to work with staff to present social services and procedures. Follow referral procedure for routine problems of non-attendance, school failure, abuse/neglect, health problems, economic concerns, and personality or behavioral concerns. Assist in establishing procedures for emergencies/crises. Develop intervention strategies utilizing school, community, and family resources to address student problems. Visit homes, counsel with families, and act as liaison between school and parents Prepare and maintain reports regarding services rendered. Develop activities to address problem areas Participate in activities to improve student attendance. Work with parents and school staff to initiate referrals for services as warranted. Assist the Student and Family Support Director Assist in monitoring student attendance, discipline, hospital homebound, homeless, and other records. Coordinate with other agencies Coordinate with other agency personnel to provide intervention and services for students and families. Serve on appropriate advisory committees and boards. Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
