GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION

The Family Visit Monitor supports Centerboard’s Supervised Family Time Service, a Preparation Support for Child Welfare initiative designed to help caregivers build the skills and capacity needed for children to return home safely. This per diem position supervises structured family visits between children in out-of-home placements and their caregivers, while coaching parents in real time to strengthen their parenting skills. Services are provided in a variety of home and community-based settings to reflect real-life parenting challenges and opportunities. The monitor plays a key role in enhancing caregiver readiness, supporting family reunification, and promoting child well-being.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Facilitate and supervise family visits in a variety of locations (homes, community spaces, provider sites). Coach caregivers in the moment using the Active Parenting Model, emphasizing nurturing, communication, and discipline. Observe and assess parent-child interactions through a trauma-informed, strengths-based lens. Provide written documentation and weekly updates to DCF caseworkers, supervisors, and Area Lead Agency staff. Ensure each visit supports the development of parenting capacity in areas like child development and emotional competence. Assist with transportation needs using Centerboard vehicles or personal vehicle (mileage reimbursed). Use telephonic or in-person interpretation services as needed to support multilingual families. Maintain confidentiality, uphold court orders, and enforce visit expectations. Respond calmly and professionally to any incidents or behavioral concerns that arise during visits. Participate in training, reflective supervision, and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) efforts. Assist in implementing CQI standards aligned with CARF criteria: effectiveness, efficiency, and access.

COMPETENCIES AND QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will bring a deep understanding of family systems, child development, and the reunification process. Emotional maturity, sound judgment, and the ability to maintain professional boundaries in emotionally intense situations are essential. Strong written and verbal communication skills, particularly in documenting observations and interacting with caregivers and professionals, are required. Candidates should demonstrate cultural humility and an ability to work respectfully with families from diverse backgrounds. Bilingual fluency in Spanish or Haitian Creole is highly desirable. Additionally, this role calls for someone who can coach caregivers in real time with compassion and clarity, using a nonjudgmental, strengths-based approach. Familiarity with protective factors, trauma-informed care, and developmental milestones is a strong asset.

PREPARATION, SKILLS & TRAININGS REQUIRED

Staff delivering this service should have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree or a minimum of five years of related experience. Required trainings may include CPR/First Aid, Trauma Informed Care/Collaborative & Proactive Solutions (CPS) and/or similar Behavior Management Training, Protective Intervention Training, Medication Administration, Orientation training; Policy Review, HIPAA, OSHA, Human Rights, Safe Driving, Emergency Incident Management, Work Place Violence, Anti-Harassment, Ethics and Boundaries, and any other related trainings offered by Centerboard, Inc. Attendance to Centerboard’s multi-cultural awareness orientation is required participation in an affinity or ongoing multi-cultural awareness training is mandatory. All employees are required to attend refresher training to maintain certification compliance and to exemplify competency of skills for each of the trainings. Required skills include the ability to prioritize tasks, communicate effectively/professionally, flexibility in a changing environment, and strong organizational skills.

This position requires the ability to travel to various locations throughout the community, including private homes, libraries, playgrounds, grocery stores, laundromats, and other public settings where supervised visits take place. Staff must be able to adapt to a range of environments and remain professional and composed in unpredictable or emotionally charged situations. The role may involve accompanying families through active or busy environments, supporting children’s safety and parent-child interactions in real time. Physical requirements include sitting for long periods of time, standing, walking, and ascending or descending stairs. The ability to work on a computer for documentation, including typing and data processing, is essential. Some visits may require light physical activity such as setting up space, rearranging furniture, or assisting with child safety.
