As a member of our team of Child Protective Services Intake Social Workers, you will make strides to ensure the division meets three federally mandated goals: Safety

  • children will be protected from harm from child abuse and neglect. Permanence
  • children entering foster care will be reunited with family or placed in a new permanent home as quickly as possible. Well-being
  • the educational, health, and overall well-being of children in foster care or receiving CPS In-Home Services will be enhanced. A Child Protective Services Intake
  • Social Worker receives and assesses allegations of child abuse, neglect, and/or dependency and responds to inquiries from the public regarding such situations with the goal of protecting children from unfavorable environments.
Essential functions include:

Interviewing those who call the report line number, fax information, or come into the office for the purpose of making reports of abuse, neglect, or dependency and/or providing/obtaining information to ensure the safety and well-being of children and families Compiling all provided information into a computerized database created for the Structure Intake Form (DSS-1402), including background checks and agency history checks Making screening decisions based on Chapter VIII Structure Intake policy, this includes the priority of the response

  • This requires knowledge and use of the Structured Intake Assessment Tools, and Priority Response Decision Trees Ascertaining the appropriate assignment of the report based on geographic assignments; and assigns to that unit Completing time sheets, day sheets, and participate in unit and section meetings Performing other duties as assigned by management About Our Team Wake County Health and Human Services (WCHHS) is the consolidation of programs and services that include social services, public health, job search assistance, child support, and transportation.

The Basics (Required Education and Experience) Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or related field Two years of job-related experience Completion of the NC Child Welfare Education Collaborative (CWEC) traineeship can be substituted for 1 year of experience Valid Driver’s License and “safe” driving record Equivalent education and experience are accepted Please include ALL prior work experience on your application and resume.
