Domestic Violence and Substance Use Counselor Confidential Bethpage, NY 11714

Position Overview:

Non-profit victim services agency is seeking a skilled and compassionate Domestic Violence and Substance Abuse Counselor to provide trauma-informed care to survivors impacted by both intimate partner violence and substance use. The counselor will offer individual and group counseling in the agency’s office, as well as in substance use treatment programs and community-based facilities throughout Nassau County. This role supports survivors in addressing the complex intersection of trauma, abuse, and addiction.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide individual and group counseling to adult survivors experiencing co-occurring domestic violence and substance use issues. Conduct comprehensive psychosocial assessments and develop trauma-informed treatment plans. Deliver crisis intervention services and safety planning as needed. Utilize evidence-based practices to support recovery, harm reduction, and trauma healing. Travel to partner agencies, including substance use treatment programs and residential facilities, to deliver on-site counseling and support services. Collaborate with external providers to coordinate mental health and substance abuse services, including evaluations and medication management. Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential client records and documentation. Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and case coordination. Provide referrals to community resources and ensure continuity of care for clients with complex needs.

Qualifications:

Master’s degree in Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, Psychology, or a related field required. Valid New York State LMSW license required. Demonstrated experience working with survivors of domestic violence and individuals with substance use disorders. Strong understanding of the intersection between trauma, domestic violence, and substance use. Knowledge of evidence-based therapeutic approaches such as CBT, DBT, Seeking Safety, and motivational interviewing. SIFI certification preferred. Excellent communication, organizational, and documentation skills. Ability to work collaboratively in a trauma-informed, client-centered, and culturally responsive environment. Reliable transportation and willingness to travel locally to service sites as needed. Bilingual (English/Spanish) is preferred

Work Environment:

This is a full-time, in-person position based in Nassau County. Services will be provided both in the agency’s office and in community settings, including substance use treatment facilities and partner programs. Some evening and/or weekend hours may be required to meet client needs.
