Additional Information About the Role PRN Chaplain Role at Barnes Jewish Hospital PRN role: Shifts are 8.5 hours with meal break. Guaranteed 2 shifts per month – opportunity for more. Schedule usually done 2 months in advance. Typically serve as on-call chaplain, which includes rounding on ICUs. Opportunity to fill temporary clinical unit coverage needs as well. The on-call chaplain responds to emergent/urgent situations such Level 1 traumas, deaths, codes, compassionate extubations, end-of-life care. Significant walking is required – on average 4-5 miles per shift – and sometimes as many as 6-7 miles.

Qualifications sought:

The Spiritual Care Services department is made up of four service lines: Chaplaincy, Chaplaincy Education, Palliative Care Consult Services and Ethics Committee support. Each of these service lines participates within the healthcare interdisciplinary teams at Barnes-Jewish Hospital with the goal of healing body, mind and spirit. Department personnel are comprised of Board Certified Professional Chaplains, Chaplain Director, ACPE Chaplain Supervisor, Chaplain Manager, Chaplain Residents, Contractual Chaplains, Medical Director and physician of Palliative Care Consult Services, Palliative Care Nurse Practitioners, Social Workers, Administrative Assistants and medical, chaplaincy, social work, nursing students rotating through these services. Preferred Qualifications Role Purpose Provides spiritual care, short term counseling, worship leadership, education and other religious support to patients, families and staff as members of the interdisciplinary care team. Responsibilities Provides direct spiritual care to patients and families. Provides consultation to other members of the care team regarding spiritual issues and resources in patient and family care and regarding ethics. Provides direct pastoral care to staff and physicians, as needed, complementing staff support services provided by others. Contributes to the field of professional spiritual care by conducting and reporting research, publishing and providing workshops at professional meetings. Minimum Requirements Education Master’s Degree – Theology/related Experience
