Residence Life and Housing The Office of Residence Life at American International College is excited to announce a robust learning opportunity for current or soon-to-be graduate students interested in Residence Life! This is a live-in position with a great remuneration package. The day-to-day functions include rounds of their assigned building, completing administrative requirements, completing office hours within their assigned residential community / Residence Life, assist in the development and facilitation of educational/social programming, trainings for student leaders, and assist with the implementation and supervision of student workers, working on a rotating on-call schedule, amongst other things! Finalists for this position will need to complete a criminal background check with Human Resources. A complete breakdown of the job functions below.

ADMINISTRATION/ORGANIZATION

Residence Life

  • Coordinate and oversee the administrative responsibilities of an assigned area in an accurate and timely manner, including room condition reports, damage billing, incident reports, etc.
  • Communicate facility and maintenance issues and share student needs and recommendations
  • Respond to crises, incidents, and facility needs that may arise in your community
  • Facilitate Health & Safety Inspections and assist with housing closing procedures in collaboration with Residence Life Professional Staff
  • Assist the department with opening and closing of the residence halls Programming Requirements
  • Assist in the administrative responsibilities within our online platform, Engage, when planning and promoting events in the Stinger.
  • Complete two programs per semester either taking place in the Stinger Pub or in your designated Residential area. Housing Operations
  • Assist the Assistant Director of Residence Life & Housing Operations with housing operations tasks.
  • Complete office hours in the Residence Life main office on a weekly fixed schedule
  • Establish collaborative relationships with college colleagues and partners, including Division of Student Affairs staff, AIC Campus Police, Chartwells catering manager, Custodial staff, and Facilities personnel
  • All other duties as assigned.

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

Residence Life

  • Facilitate the development of a positive and inclusive residence hall community through program development and community accountability
  • Develop meaningful connections with students through availability and visibility in your designated area
  • Develop and coordinate a programming plan based on the community development model that meets the needs of your student populations
  • Facilitate the use of roommate and community agreements to identify student expectations and methods of holding each other accountable
  • In collaboration with the Assistant Director, develop programmatic initiatives, like Diversity and Inclusion Week, as part of the Residence Life educational series. Programming Requirements
  • Work closely with the Assistant Director of Residence Life & Housing Operations to complete programming requirements.
  • Attend educational programs, events, and training, unless previously communicated with supervisorsAssist Resident Assistants / ACs/RDs with after-hour programming within the residence halls as needed Housing Operations
  • Conduct check-ins of students in collaboration with the Dean of Students office/ CARE Team to ensure the well-being of the students
  • Work with the Assistant Director of Housing Operations to ensure that your area and team are in good shape, with reporting any facilities concerns, student concerns or issues, as well as RA staff concerns
  • Work with the Assistant Director of Housing Operations for any room changes or updates for any roommate conflicts / necessary room changes that result
LEADERSHIP/PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Residence Life

  • Read and review articles within the area of Residence Life and participate in dialogue with the Director of Residence Life & Assistant Director of Residence Life & Housing Operations to strengthen knowledge on both current and historical information
  • Participate in weekly 1:1 meeting with the Assistant Director of Residence Life & Housing Operations to provide updates on progress, guidance, and necessary support to be successful Housing Operations
  • Participate and assist in the facilitation of student staff trainings (Resident Advisors, Orientation Leaders, RSOs, etc.)
  • Support the Department of Student Life’s mission and promote its initiatives and goals
  • Participate in departmental meetings, professional development meetings and any mandatory professional development events sponsored by Student Life
  • Oversee a Resident Advisor staff under the help of the Assistant Director of Residence Life and Housing Operations
MARKETING AND BRANDING/ COMMUNICATIONS

Residence Life and Housing Operations

  • Develop a Monthly/Semesterly Calendar of events for your residential area and work with deadlines for your Resident Advisor staff Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:

earned bachelor’s degree, must be enrolled in graduate program at American International College at time of appointment, previous experiences advising student leaders, previous experience addressing violations of college policy, organization and time management, and great customer service.

Preferred Qualifications:

enrollment in an education-focused master’s program, interest in a career in higher education (Residence Life, Diversity Education, Student Conduct, Engagement, Advising) or closely related field, and a firm understanding of student development theory. This position would start as soon as possible and end on or around June 30, 2026. Candidates will need to reapply for the position should they be interested in extending their appointment on staff past June 2026. This is a year-long position, typically from July 1st to June 30th.
