General Description
This position requires responsible analytical work while maintaining confidentiality in the review, extraction, analysis and compilation of data. An employee in this class researches, assembles and presents information in order to provide investigative leads and determines functional patterns to be used in an investigation. This work is predominately intellectual and varied in character as opposed to routine mental, manual, mechanical or physical work. Work requires the use of various analytical methods including investigative report analysis, graphic presentation of data, charting of events in chronological sequence or collection and consolidation of intelligence data from other agencies. Work is of such a character that the output produced or the result accomplished cannot be standardized in relation to a given period of time.
General supervision is received from a Crime Analyst Supervisor who reviews progress of assignments, provides support on completion of analytical projects and evaluates completed work for the quality and resourcefulness of results for investigative use. This is a non-sworn, non-exempt, full-time position.
Essential Job Functions

Reviews, extracts and analyzes reports and other information and compiles data into local format to provide general or specific intelligence for use in investigative and planning decisions.
Collects and coordinates information and intelligence; organizes, analyzes and prioritizes intelligence; determines reliability and validity.
Prepares analytical reports, summaries and assessments.
Must be able to successfully complete all required training.
Performs other related work as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of modern law enforcement principals, procedures, techniques, and equipment. Knowledge of applicable laws, ordinances, and department rules and regulations.
Knowledge of procedures for operating various office equipment, including personal computers.
Knowledge of standard formats used for a variety of letters, memos, and related documents. Knowledge of general office procedures, practices, and equipment. Knowledge of the section/division to which assigned including its policies, procedures, regulations, organization and work flow. Skilled in the use of personal computer with keyboard, including the use of software packages to include Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, mapping software, CJIS, OSSI, EDEN, FCIC, NCIC, Internet and public databases; typewriter; calculator; motor vehicle, copier; facsimile machine, and telephone.
Ability to review, classify, categorize, prioritize, and/or analyze data and/or information in determining data classification, and in referencing such analysis to established standards for the purpose of recognizing actual or probable interactive effects and relationships.
Ability to operate, maneuver and/or control the actions of equipment, machinery, tools, and/or materials used in performing essential functions.
Ability to utilize a wide variety of reference data and information.
Ability to use basic methods and techniques in statistical research and analysis.
Ability to review, evaluate and analyze current crime/intelligence information, current events from periodicals and publications related to criminals and their activity.
Ability to comprehend, interpret and respond to crime/intelligence information and to conduct analytical investigations.
Ability to make discretionary decisions pertaining to confidential crime/intelligence matters.
Ability to evaluate information against measurable or verifiable criteria.
Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

Education & Experience Requirements:
High school diploma or GED; supplemented by college level coursework with emphasis in Business Administration, Public Administration, Criminology, Criminal Justice, or closely related field; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred. One (1) year minimum previous experience as a crime analyst and/or possession of a Crime or Intelligence Analyst certification required. Must possess and maintain, throughout employment, a valid Florida driver license. Applicants qualifying for employment will be subject to a polygraph examination and an extensive background screening.
