Job Description
Criminal Records Technician G113 Columbus Consolidated Government Columbus, GA Major Duties and Responsibilities This position is responsible for performing a variety of clerical and record management duties. Fingerprints and photographs suspects, police applicants, and juveniles. Answers incoming phone calls. Alphabetizes arrest wagon reports and fingerprint cards; files fingerprint cards. Adds information to the log book. Prepares monthly reports on all data entries. Signs out photographs for use in court cases. Logs, tracks, and maintains supplemental records for the unit. Enters pawned article and firearm data into the Police Mainframe Database. Reviews GCIC and NCIC responses to pawned articles and firearms. Copies pawn sheets and conducts criminal history inquiries on all individuals pawning firearms; generates and prints criminal history reports on individuals with GA/FBI records. Enters into the Columbus Police Department database the names and identities of all individuals for whom criminal history inquiries and reports were performed or generated. Generates reports and notifications on stolen property hit reports; sends hit confirmation teletype requests to outside agencies. Reviews pawnshop license applications and renewals; conducts criminal history checks on all individuals associated with the business. Assists representatives of the department or outside agencies in retrieving data entered into the pawn shop database. Validates records for the Georgia Crime Information Center. Reviews missing persons reports and warrants to ensure that information has been entered into the state computer correctly. Enters or assists in entering information on vehicles, lost or stolen license plates, and guns into the computer database. Performs other related duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of the policies and procedures of the Criminal Justice Information System Network. Knowledge of department policies and procedures. Minimum Educational and Training Requirements Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of specialized training in the occupational field, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education. Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
