FIREFIGTHER PARAMEDIC

City of St. Pete Beach, FL City of St. Pete Beach, FL Job Summary St. Pete Beach Fire Rescue (SPBFR) is an all-hazards, ALS response fire and EMS department and maintains an ISO Property Protection Class 2 Rating. Our department operates out of 2 stations with a variety of response apparatus serving nearly 10,000 residents and many visitors. SPBFR is made up of motivated and professional individuals who are team-oriented, physically fit, self-motivated, and who possess good moral character. Performs intermediate protective service work providing fire suppression and in providing emergency medical care of sick and injured; performs related work as required. Work is often performed under emergency conditions and frequently involves considerable personal hazard. Work is performed under regular supervision and reports to a Fire Lieutenant or District Fire Chief. Essential Job Functions Responds to emergency calls; drives and operates apparatus; fire suppression; provides basic and advanced life support; prepares and maintains detailed records. (The following tasks are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.) Responds to alarms, operates equipment and assists in the suppression of fires, including rescue, entry, ventilating and salvage work. Responds to emergency calls, drives equipment and administers emergency medical services at the Paramedic level. Checks and prepares equipment and supplies for treatment; tests fire hose. Performs cleanup and overhaul work. Assists Firefighter/EMT’s in training for further certifications. Participates in continuing training and instruction program by individual study of technical material and attendance at scheduled drills and classes. Performs related tasks as required. Minimum Qualifications, Licenses, Certifications High School Diploma or GED equivalency. Some firefighting and emergency medical services experience. Dual certified Firefighter/Paramedics are preferred. State of Florida firefighters currently in paramedic school and paramedics currently in fire academy may also apply. Possession of an appropriate driver’s license valid in the State of Florida. Must obtain and maintain certification of a Firefighter and EMT-Paramedic. Must meet and maintain all departmental requirements for the position. This position has a competitive benefits package which includes a 175-pension plan with a 3.4% multiplier and a Kelly day (24 hrs. off) every 13th shift. This is very heavy work requiring exertion in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word, and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly, or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels, and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; visual acuity is required for depth perception, color perception, night vision, peripheral vision, preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, use of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts at or within arms length, operation of machines, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, noise, vibration, hazards, atmospheric conditions, oils, and wearing a respirator. The firefighter may be exposed to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment.
