SALARY GRADE
Grade 12 This position is time-limited, grant funded, full time. Funding for this position will end on June 30, 2026; however, funding is expected to continue through June 30, 2027. The Office of the District Attorney, Wake County, seeks a qualified, dedicated and detail-oriented individual to provide support services for prosecutors during initial court appearances where hearings are held 24 to 48 hours of a defendant’s arrest to determine conditions of release, bond, and legal representation. Duties include but are not limited to accurate preparation of legal documents, facilitating efficient communication between attorneys, clerks, the court, and detention staff as well as typing, criminal case management, file preparation, and accurate note taking. A successful candidate will be a highly motivated self-starter with strong oral and written communication skills as well as excellent time-management. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities /
Competencies Knowledge of:
court system and procedures; legal terminology; and community resources to refer victims and witnesses.
Skill in:
Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint; accurately typing 35-40 wpm. Knowledge in eCourts is also preferred.
Ability to:
Serve as the main contact between attorneys, clerks, and jail staff and accurately track and report court activity and movement on cases. Organization, attention to detail, and efficient time management are essential. The applicant should be able to balance multiple demands at once with strict timelines. The ability to adapt to unexpected changes while remaining calm under pressure is essential to this role. Maintaining professionalism in both the courtroom and office is important for clear communication, attention to detail, and performance. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Graduation from high school or high school equivalency certificate and two (2) years of legal secretarial experience. Management prefers candidates with experience as a legal assistant with knowledge of court procedures; considerable experience with Microsoft Office products and Outlook is desired.
