Under the direct supervision of the Wastewater Operations Manager, performs skilled line, lateral, manhole, and wet well cleaning to the wastewater collection system. Responsible for communicating and coordinating daily work tasks with the Wastewater Crew Chief in the absence of the Wastewater Operations Manager. Performs and executes all duties within established safety and other applicable regulations, guidelines, and procedures. This position is designated as in the event JIPSD’s Emergency Operation Plan is activated. This position is subject to being assigned “on-call” status as needed to accommodate the needs of
JIPSD. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Utilizes mechanical cleaning equipment to clean sewer lines to relieve stoppages, prepare sewer lines for televising, clean sewer manholes/lines, and clean sewer lift station wet wells. Assists in identifying and suggesting repairs to the Wastewater Operations Manager for the Wastewater infrastructure after cleaning lines, lift stations or manholes. Responsible for maintaining the VAC Truck and executing the daily work assignments. Maintains cleanliness of equipment and truck used in cleaning and repairing sewer lines in accordance with the preventative maintenance system problem areas. Ensures that appropriate equipment, such as nozzles, is used at each work site; ensures that all JIPSD safety regulations are followed, including requesting traffic control as needed. Maintains a twenty-four hour on-call status for a two-week period in rotation with other Wastewater Services employees and is available for after-hours emergency calls. Performs smoke testing of sewer mains and laterals as directed. Must possess a valid South Carolina Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) – Class A or B and obtain a Tanker Endorsement within 6 months of hire. Other duties as assigned by the District.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of standards, practices, and equipment of wastewater system maintenance. Ability to abide by JIPSD’s Code of Conduct/Behavioral Standards. Knowledge of the safety hazards and proper precautions relating to wastewater system maintenance. Knowledge of the geography of JIPSD. Ability to perform strenuous physical labor and to exert up to 100 pounds of force. Ability to work well with colleagues and the public. Ability to follow work assignments without direct supervision. Ability to operate equipment used in the maintenance and repair of sewer systems.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
