UTILITIES MAINTENANCE II
City of St. Pete Beach, FL City of St. Pete Beach, FL Job Summary Performs skilled and semi-skilled work in the repair and maintenance of wastewater and stormwater collection systems and the reclaimed water distribution system. Work involves operating specialized equipment, performing routine and emergency maintenance tasks, and ensuring compliance with safety and environmental standards. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Utilities Crew Chief. This position is part of an existing Career Ladder Utilities Maintenance I Utilities Maintenance II Utilities Maintenance III Essential Job Functions Checks wastewater, stormwater, and reclaimed water systems periodically to ensure that components are functioning properly; documents and recommends needed repairs and maintenance. Performs repairs and maintenance on the wastewater and stormwater collection systems as needed or assigned; Assists or monitors contractors on emergency and/or major system repairs. Makes mechanical repairs of engines, pumps, electrical and mechanical controls and compressors; Performs repairs on electric motors used for wastewater pumping; Uses hand, bench and machine tools in the repair and maintenance of pumps, meters, valves, cranes and other machinery and equipment; Performs miscellaneous carpentry and other tasks on occasion. Conducts wastewater and stormwater line inspection using closed circuit television equipment and remote-controlled drone equipment. Performs wastewater and stormwater cleaning utilizing vacuum truck and chain-cutting equipment. Performs utility locates required by Sunshine 811. Performs vegetation management of bushes, trees, and root systems by cutting or removal toto clear pipe, inlet, and other conveyance blockages. Performs inspections of utility line breaks to determine which water system is impacted and coordinates with the proper utility maintenance department, monitors outside agency repairs through completion and relays need for subsequent restoration. Replaces hose bibs for use with the reclaimed water system. Utilizes heavy equipment including but not limited to front end loader, Vac Con Truck, dump truck, skid steer with multiple attachments, forklift, tractor with various trailer stop reforming maintenance and emergency operations support. Installs and maintains temporary traffic control. Ability to identify and implement erosion control requirements for local maintenance work sites. Completes work orders in the work order management systems assigned. Provides support for storm recovery efforts, including debris removal and cleanup. Responds to emergency situations as needed, including after-hours assignments. Performs related tasks as required.
Minimum Qualifications, Licenses, Certifications Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of technical school preferred. Minimum of two years of relevant experience in maintenance or construction work, preferably related to utilities systems.
Certifications and Licenses:
Appropriate commercial driver’s license valid in the State of Florida. Emergency management-related training as required by City leadership (i.e.
NIMS 100, 700
). FDOT Flagger Operations certification. FDEP Florida Stormwater, Erosion, Sedimentation Control Inspector (FSESCI) certification. Florida Stormwater Association Stormwater Operator Certification Level I within one year of hire. FDOT Intermediate Temporary Traffic Control (TTC) certification within one year of hire. FWPCOA Level III (C) certification in wastewater collection systems. OSHA 10-hour construction safety certification preferred.
Special Requirements Emergency Response Status:
As a condition of employment, City of St. Pete Beach employees may be required to work as directed during a nondeclared and/re or declared emergency. All employees are subject to recall around the clock for emergency response operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the normal work location, and may include duties other than those specified in the official job description. Requirements Availability to work outside normal hours during emergencies, including weekends and holidays. Participation in on-call rotation as required. This is a safety sensitive position. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Physical and Environmental Conditions Knowledge, Skills,and Abilities General knowledge of the tools, materials, and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of utility lines; General knowledge of utilities maintenance; Thorough knowledge of the use of common hand and power tools; Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods often under unfavorable weather conditions; Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; Ability to perform the essential job functions with, or without reasonable accommodation. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates. Physical Requirements This is heavy work requiring the exertion of 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. work requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, and repetitive motions. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; Visual acuity is required for depth perception, color perception, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, use of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts at or within arm’s length, operation of machines, operation of motor vehicles and equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities. The worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, noise, vibration, hazards atmospheric conditions and oils.
