QUESTIONS An Equal Opportunity Employer Nature of Work Skilled and technical work in the installation, maintenance and repair of air conditioning systems. Work involves responsibility for performing tasks requiring skill in the installation, maintenance and repair of air conditioning and refrigeration equipment. Assignments are made either orally or through written work orders. Work is performed independently, subject to inspection by a supervisor upon completion for proper performance and conformity with accepted safety standards. Functional supervision may be exercised over skilled and unskilled workers engaged in building and other property repair and maintenance. Essential Functions Diagnoses and repairs all types of air conditioning and refrigeration equipment including room air conditioners, package air conditioners, water chillers, cooling towers, walk in coolers, ice machines, freezers, carbonators and ice cream boxes. Installs, modifies and maintains necessary air conditioning equipment, water coolers and the refrigerating mechanism of refrigerators, coolers and freezers. Performs necessary adjustments to ensure maximum performance of the primary or ancillary equipment, such as water cooling and circulating equipment, air compressors and related devices. Adjusts, cleans or replaces expansion valves, timing relays, protective circuits, air and water controls. Adds or replaces lubricant and refrigerant as required. Repairs or replaces electric motors and compressors, ice cutting blades, bearings, capillary tubes, capacitors, relays, thermostats, belts, valves and pumps. Uses standard and special tools and equipment, such as vacuum and pressure gauges and volt meters. Designs and fabricates special equipment as required. Operates power tools in maintaining and repairing equipment. Keeps time and work records and prepares work reports. Attends trainings on the Building Management System and its controls, in order to operate and maintain the system. May be tasked with the review and/or supervision of work completed by lower level skilled and unskilled workers assigned to the department, as well as contractors and other outside vendors. Performs other related work as required. Minimum Requirements High school diploma or its equivalent or graduation from vocational school, and two (2) years of experience as a licensed Journeyman level Air Conditioning Mechanic in accordance with Florida State Statutes, Chapter 489 and/or the Miami-Dade County Code, Chapter 10. Must possess a valid Miami-Dade County Certificate of Competency as a Journeyman in Air-Conditioning and Type I, Type II or Universal certification from an EPA recognized certification program in refrigerant transition and recovery service practices in accordance with EPA 40 CFR, Part 82, Subpart F, Section 608 of the 1990 Clean Air Act Amendment. A Valid Driver’s License from any state (Equivalent to a State of Florida Class E) may be utilized upon application, however prior to appointment a State of Florida Driver’s License (Class E or higher) must be presented to the Department of Human Resources and must be maintained valid throughout employment.
NOTE:
Special requirements or exceptions may be necessary depending upon needs of the city, however, they must be in accordance with the requirements of Chapter 10, the South Florida Building Code and State Statues.

Copy of Miami-Dade County Certificate of Competency for Journeyman Air Conditioning (copy of front and back) 2.Proof of Type I, Type II or Universal certification from an EPA recognized certification program in refrigerant transition and recovery service practices in accordance with EPA 40 CFR, Part 82, Subpart F, Section 608 of the 1990 Clean Air Act Amendment 3.
Proof of education:
Copy of high school diploma or its equivalent or proof vocational school graduation. College degrees and/or transcripts from an US accredited institution are also acceptable. If submitting transcripts, submitted transcripts must include the following: student’s name, school name, number of credits, degree completion, and major. Foreign diplomas/degrees must be submitted with a credential evaluation report from an approved credential evaluation agency. Translations of diploma/degrees are not accepted. Audit/Academic reports are not accepted as substitutions for college transcripts. 4.
Proof of Driver’s License:
Valid driver’s license from any state (equivalent to a State of Florida Class E or higher). However, prior to appointment a State of Florida Class E or higher, must be submitted to the Department of Human Resources. •
Approved Credential Evaluation Agencies:
Credential evaluation reports showing the United States equivalency for academic credentials earned in other countries may be provided by: An accredited four-year college or university in the United States, OR
A current member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES), OR
A current member of the Association of International Credential Evaluators (AICE), OR
A recognized Professional Organization
