Minimum Qualifications:

Completion of course work equivalent to the academic requirements of a High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalent; completion of HVAC technical training, and one (1) year experience as an HVAC mechanic; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.

Specific License or Certification Required:

 Must possess Environmental Protection Agency Refrigerant Handling License. Valid State of Georgia Driver’s License(as required by position assignment).

Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities:

Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in the performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all county or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.

The examination will consist of an evaluation of education and experience accomplished by analysis of the application. Application must document that the applicant possesses the minimum knowledge, skills, education and experience as listed to be qualified. If selected, an official, accredited college transcript is required, at time of employment, for all degrees/course work used to qualify for this position

Purpose of Classification:

Performs operational duties related to repairing and maintaining heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems at County governmental facilities. Responsibilities include inspecting, repairing, and monitoring HVAC systems; operating recovery equipment; and performing preventative maintenance

Essential Functions:

The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned. Completes daily facility maintenance tasks in an assigned field, such as carpentry, welding, HVAC, electrical, and/or plumbing. Places, installs, and tests equipment to ensure equipment is secure and functioning properly; provides training on new equipment to end users. Communicates with team leader and supervisors about progress of job; answers questions and helps troubleshoot issues with customers and other departments. Inspects systems and performs preventative maintenance tasks, such as cleaning, re-calibrating, and repairing, when needed. Maintains materials, equipment, and tools to ensure jobs can be completed in a timely manner. Documents work orders with details about how work was completed and materials used. Ensures the work site is clean before leaving after a shift.

Additional Functions:

Collects quotes from outside vendors. The use of large equipment, such as a bucket lift, may be necessary for certain jobs. On-call work may be needed due to work schedules and demands of daily business. Makes recommendations to customers on what equipment may need to be procured. Performs other related duties as required. Performance

Requires the ability to utilize a wide variety of reference, descriptive, and/or advisory data and information.

Mathematical Aptitude:

Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; the ability to calculate decimals and percentages; the ability to utilize principles of fractions; and the ability to interpret graphs.

Functional Reasoning:

Requires the ability to apply principles of rational systems; to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form; and to exercise independent judgment to adopt or modify methods and standards to meet variations in assigned objectives.
