Monday-Friday 5:30am to 4:00pm or as needed
Job Responsibilities:
Quality (As Needed): Ensure the Daily Measurements on Headrig, Resaw, and Edger are completed in a timely fashion Have a working knowledge of lumber grades Ensure all quality concerns and manufacturing defects are dealt with immediately (off size lumber, grade, machine defects, etc.) Train and coach employees to spot and alert the proper people with quality issues Communicate with file shop personnel and facilitate communication between file shop and sawyers Safety (As Needed): Complete all tasks in a safe manner. Follow all company and OSHA procedures regarding work practices, LOTO, PPE, etc. Train and coach employees to work safely Ensure employees follow all company and OSHA procedures regarding work practices, LOTO, PPE, etc. Hold a monthly safety focus group with 5-6 employees Know and understand Hancock Lumber’s safety and mission statement File lock-out/tag-out and MSDS reports Train employees on LOTO where applicable Production (35%): Monitor flow in the mill. Make adjustments to maximize flow. (ex. stop gang, stop headrig, etc.) Make sure all machine centers are caught up at all times Run machine centers during break or lunch if they are behind Ability to operate all machine centers if required Call breaks and lunches early if necessary to reduce downtime Scheduling (10%): Schedule all employee vacations and other necessary time off. Schedule replacements when necessary Complete a daily employee job rotation, adjust as needed for vacations and call ins Hold employees to a 40-hour schedule, schedule overtime when it is necessary Morning Stretch (5%): Lead and ensure all employees participate in morning stretches Review and communicate any safety concerns (near miss, other topics) Review downtime from the previous day Review maintenance work from the prior night Review production numbers from the previous day Communicate any announcements (schedule changes, meetings, lunches, etc.) Address any other employee concerns Training (30%): Ensure new employees are properly trained on specific job functions Ensure new employees are properly trained on any and all LOTO procedures Follow up and coach all employees on specific job functions and LOTO procedures Machine center adjustments/maintenance (10%): Have a working knowledge of electricity, hydraulics, pneumatics, welding, and general sawing practices Recognize and remedy machine center defects Perform machine center calibrations when necessary Assist maintenance with any downtime Other (10%): Collect and enter data into the scanner data sheet to be presented at a daily production/maintenance meeting Collect and enter data into Filemaker to be presented at the daily production/maintenance meeting Compile a list of maintenance tasks to be completed nightly Coordinate and record row changes filing necessary paperwork Assist with cleaning as necessary Assist with installation of new machinery as necessary Other duties to be assigned by Sawmill Manager
REPETITIVE PHYSICAL DEMANDS
(Sawmill Category): 1. Lift 60 #’s from floor to waist, lift 40 #’s from waist to shoulder. 2. Carry 60 #’s over a distance exceeding 12 feet. 3. Stand on cement floor for extended periods of time. 4. Push 100 #’s in a wheeled cart. 5. Bend, stoop, or squat to floor level repeatedly. 6. Reach overhead to grasp materials. 7. Ability to walk up and down stairs and catwalks to access machinery.
ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS & FREQUENCY
Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and vibration. Work will take place in both heated/non-heated environments. Noise levels at times can be high.
Frequency:
Day or Night, or weekends. Possible rotating shifts.
Time:
Depending on shift, 10 – 12 hours per day.
