Description:
1st Shift Ashland, PA Perform the duties of Electric Induction Furnace Operator A (Job Code 231), or No Bake Pour-off A (Job Code 216) and other misc. duties as assigned. Particular attention must be made to safe consciousness. Work is semi-routine requiring judgment in the application of established principles in adjusting furnace controls and analysis of furnace by visual observation as well as readings. Able to identify raw material and color-codes. High degree of judgment must be maintained during melting and AOD process to ensure proper metallurgical chemistries and safe conditions. Independent thought and decision are essential in adjusting metal chemistry based on control tests. Assume responsibility for visually checking the integrity of charge materials, especially returns for compatibility with particular alloys being melted. Understand nomenclature for both induction furnaces and AOD system.
Requirements:
Education :
Working knowledge of electrical, water-cooling hydraulic systems. Basic computer skills, i.e., mouse, keyboard, and screen navigation for AOD refining system
Experience:
6 to 12 months as a Melt Deck Worker B. Must have obtained either the “A” rate as an Electric Furnace Operator (Job Code 231) or No Bake Pour-off (Job Code 216).
PHYSICAL DEMAND
Moderately heavy job in changing weights, moving molds, and working with hot metal. Considerable physical effort required in the charging of metal to furnaces and AOD vessel and the removal of slag from furnaces/AOD vessels.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Continuous exposure to extreme heat, fumes, smoke and burn hazard.
