Job Description
Utility Maintainer II – Water and Sewer Department Town of Watertown, CT 61 Echo Lake Road, Watertown, CT 06795 The Town of Watertown is accepting applications for a Full-Time Utility Maintainer II in the Water and Sewer Authority Department. The starting pay is $33.55 during the probationary period and $34.32 at the end of the probationary period per the bargaining unit contract.
Summary:
Responsible for coordinating the maintenance and service aspects of the Water and Sewer Authority. Responsibilities of the Position Supervises maintenance and service aspects of facilities and equipment. Trains new maintenance employees. Inspects construction of sewer and water mains. Taps water mains in order to connect new homes. Inspects and supervises the connection of homes to water and sewer mains. May excavate by hand when necessary to complete the raising and lowering of gate boxes. Answers customer questions and investigates complaints to municipal water and sewer service. Chlorinates water mains and takes water samples. Shuts off lines to non-paying customers. Clears lines and acts as rod carrier on survey team. Measures properties to place water and sewer mains. Locates water and sewer connections in order to place new hydrants. Performs related work as required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Some knowledge of water and sewer maintenance and serve. Good mechanical skills. Good ability to supervise the work of others. Good ability to complete heavy, physical tasks. Good ability to read and copy figures. Good ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public, employees, and supervisors. Some basic public utility plumping and water distribution knowledge are desirable such as taps and water sewer pipe connections.
Qualifications:
Five years of progressively responsible experience as a laborer in a municipal public works department; OR any combination of training and experience which provides a demonstrated ability to perform the duties of the position.
