General Description:
The Director of Government Affairs is responsible for working with the VP of Government Affairs to maintain communication with state, federal, municipal, and tribal governments in furtherance of the University and OU Health’s missions. This position is both internal and external facing. The internal focus requires working in coordination with the VP of Government Affairs to effectively communicate legislative and agency actions to key stakeholders at the University and OU Health. The external focus requires the ability to monitor state legislative and state agency action in the absence of the VP of Government Affairs and to assist in advocating and conveying messages to elected leaders and other decision makers on behalf of the University and OU Health.
Essential Responsibilities:
Monitor state and local legislative affairs. Support community initiatives. Manage OU Health team of contract lobbyists. Serve in a Member Services role to assist elected officials and decision makers in their interactions with the University and OU Health. Coordinate visits by state elected officials and decision makers to the University and OU Health.
General Responsibilities:
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree.
Experience:
Five (5) years to seven (7) years of progressive leadership experience required including legislative branch or agency experience.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Demonstrated track record of developing and implementing successful and comprehensive external affairs strategy. Expertise in Oklahoma legislative process and understanding of the Administrative Procedure Act. Strong research skills including regulations and legislation. Demonstrated ability to develop collaborative relationships with key stakeholders within the organization. Strong influence skills. Ability to maintain integrity and trust among leadership and staff. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Proven ability to prepare presentations and present to small and large audiences. Experience preparing and presenting executive reports. Demonstrated ability to explain complex topics succinctly. Proven ability to manage multiple high priority deliverables. Demonstrated business acumen.
