Student Leadership and Engagement, serving the entire student body, provides leadership and vision for coordinating various forms of student involvement and engagement within DASA at NC State University. The department encompasses co-curricular leadership programs and initiatives; student organization management, education, and development; student governance; large scale campus programming; global engagement via Alternative Service Break, service, and civic engagement coordination; campus-community partnerships; academic courses; and a robust student intern program. Essential Job Duties Reporting directly to the Assistant Director of Alternative Service Break and Community Engagement, the Coordinator for Civic Engagement will be responsible for the following: Civic Engagement Program Coordination
Lead and implement civic and community engagement initiatives, including Pack the Polls, the Active Citizenry Series, the Civic Action Network, and service-learning initiatives that align with DASA and university strategic goals.
Coordinate monthly Civic Action Network meetings with student organization leaders, faculty, and community partners. Voter Engagement & Institutionalization
Oversee Pack the Polls Ambassadors, a non-partisan voter education and advocacy coalition.
Support NC State’s voter engagement priorities, coordinating early voting sites and developing educational initiatives to increase student participation.
Serve as the campus representative for voter engagement initiatives with organizations like North Carolina Campus Engagement and national civic engagement networks. Student Leadership & Supervision
Supervise and mentor civic engagement student interns, providing leadership development opportunities.
Mobilize student leaders and campus partners to develop and implement civic engagement programs and trainings. Event Planning & Outreach
Plan civic engagement outreach programs and events, including the Packapalooza Service Zone and campus-wide civic engagement activities.
Collaborate with campus and community partners to promote socially responsible leadership and civic action among students. Assessment & Continuous Improvement
Assess and evaluate civic engagement initiatives, tracking student learning outcomes and program effectiveness.
Use data-driven insights to improve and expand civic engagement efforts at NC State. Institutional & Community Partnerships
Build and sustain partnerships with student organizations, community agencies, and local/state government to enhance civic engagement opportunities.
Work with faculty, staff, and administrators to integrate civic engagement into curricular and co-curricular experiences. Qualifications Minimum Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of experience with civic engagement initiatives. Other Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of experience with civic engagement initiatives. Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree in Student Affairs, Education, Leadership, Organizational Development, Higher Education.
Experience in Civic Engagement within a university setting, including voter engagement, service-learning, or community-based initiatives.
Student Staff Supervision Experience, including training, mentoring, and coaching student employees, interns, or volunteers.
Knowledge of Voter Engagement Best Practices and experience working with national and regional civic engagement organizations (e.g., Campus Vote Project, North Carolina Campus Engagement, etc.).
Demonstrated effort to promote socially responsible leadership among staff and students throughout the university.
Effective leadership skills, with the ability to coach, advise, supervise, train and mentor
Excellent Interpersonal, Verbal, and Written Communication Skills, including the ability to facilitate workshops, deliver presentations, and engage with students. Required License(s) or Certification(s) N/A Valid NC Driver’s License required No
