Adoption Coordinator Alaqua Animal Refuge, Inc. Freeport, FL Adoption Coordinator- Full Time Freeport, FL Want to make a real difference in the lives of rescue animals in need? Alaqua Animal Refuge is more than a shelter. We are a nonprofit sanctuary and rescue facility on 100 breathtaking acres in Northwest Florida, dedicated to saving animals, healing them, and helping them find forever homes. We are looking for a compassionate and dedicated person to fill our Full Time Adoption Coordinator position. The Adoption Coordinator plays a key role in helping animals find their forever homes by overseeing the adoption process from start to finish. This position supports a diverse population of animals—including dogs, cats, rabbits, farm animals, and other companion animals—by matching them with loving adopters, providing education, and ensuring a positive experience for both animals and people. The ideal candidate is highly organized, compassionate, and passionate about animal welfare and people-focused service.
What You’ll Do:
Adoption Management Manage all aspects of the adoption process, including application review, interviews, meet-and-greets, and finalizing adoptions Ensure each animal is matched appropriately based on temperament, medical needs, and adopter lifestyle Maintain clear, accurate, and timely records in shelter software and files Act as a liaison between adopters and animal care staff to ensure smooth transitions Animal Care Support Stay informed about each adoptable animal’s medical and behavioral status Work with veterinary and animal care teams to ensure animals are ready for adoption Collaborate with foster, animal care and training teams to prepare animals for successful placements What We’re Looking For Passion for animal rescue and commitment to the organization’s mission 1-2 years of experience in animal welfare, customer service, or program coordination preferred Knowledge of multiple species (e.g., dogs, cats, rabbits, livestock) a plus Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing multiple tasks simultaneously Ability to work independently and as part of a team Proficiency with computers and shelter management software (e.g., Shelterluv) Must be able to handle animals of varying sizes, temperaments, and species safely and compassionately Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required Weekend availability required Why Join Us?
