Costume Shop Assistant 4.3 4.3 out of 5 stars Cortland, NY The Costume Shop Assistant is responsible for the overall operation of the costume shop, ensuring the efficient construction, maintenance, and storage of costumes for departmental productions. Experience Cortland dives deep into the region’s offerings Major Responsibilities Shop operations: Oversee daily fitting schedules, shop supply budgeting, and supply management.
Costume construction and operation:
Collaborate with the costume designer on costume construction, pulling, alteration, and fitting of all costume pieces. Assign tasks for work-study students and student wardrobe crews.
Fitting and wardrobe:
Schedule fittings, ensure proper costume storage and maintenance. Attend dress rehearsals, oversee wardrobe crews during production runs, responsible for cleaning and repairing costumes while play/musical is in production, striking all costumes when the production closes, restoring them to their proper storage area and returning rentals. Functional and Supervisory Relationships Required Qualifications Proven experience in costume construction with strong design interpretation skills. Strong organizational skills. Working knowledge of costume history, materials, and construction techniques.
