This person is responsible for care of program puppies and adult dogs, as well as privately-owned working dogs through traditional clinic appointments.

Responsibilities:

Under the direction of the veterinarians, provide medical care to adult dogs in training, puppies, puppy parents, and graduate dogs. Conducts clinic appointments with veterinarians, providing wellness and sick care to working dogs. Upholds accurate record keeping and performs scheduled medical care. Triages canine medical emergency situations for program dogs, while keeping the veterinarians and respective departments informed. Participates equally with other nurses in an “on-call” rotation for after-hours emergencies. The “on-call” nurse stays on campus, along with support staff and our veterinarian during hurricanes or severe weather. Provides on-call medical services in coordination with organization veterinarians. Assists the veterinarians in monitoring and addressing reported medical concerns. Administer and monitor anesthesia under the direction and direct supervision of veterinarians. • Surgical preparation and assistance. Assesses inventory of all supplies and pharmaceuticals. Provides exceptional client service to all visiting Graduates, Puppy Raisers, Puppy Parent Hosts, and other guests. Performs quality controls, maintenance and cleaning on in house laboratory equipment. Maintains medical equipment and assists Practice Manager in vendor relations. Serves as mentor to team members.

Qualifications:
Required:

Ability to properly handle large dogs for medical procedures

Skills:

venipuncture, sedation, intubation, anesthesia, surgical prep, radiology, cytology Excellent written and verbal communication skills Proficiency with email
