Veterinary Support Specialist South Rhea Animal Hospital 865 Rhea County Highway, Dayton, TN 37321 Overview We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Hospital Assistant to join our veterinary team. The Hospital Assistant plays a key support role at our veterinary clinic by assisting with patient care, maintaining a clean and organized environment, and delivering excellent customer service as needed. This position provides support in three primary areas: kennel care , reception , and veterinary assistant duties. Responsibilities Kennel & Patient Care Feed, water, and monitor boarding and hospitalized animals. Walk dogs and clean up after pets, maintaining a clean and sanitary environment at all times. Bathe and groom animals as needed. Clean and disinfect kennels, cages, and laundry areas regularly. Observe and report any signs of illness or distress to the veterinary staff. Monitor animal patients during recovery and report changes in behavior or condition. Reception & Client Services Greet clients and pets warmly and professionally. Answer phones, schedule appointments, and confirm upcoming visits. Handle client check-ins and check-outs, process payments, and provide invoices. Maintain accurate client and patient records using clinic software. Provide excellent customer service by addressing client questions and concerns with empathy. Educate clients on basic pet care, services, and products offered. Veterinary Assistant & Clinical Support Safely handle and restrain animals during exams, treatments, and procedures. Assist veterinarians and technicians during examinations, surgeries, and treatments. Prepare exam rooms, surgical areas, and equipment for procedures. Ensure aseptic techniques are followed during medical procedures. Collect and process lab samples (e.g., fecal, urine) if trained. Administer medications as directed by the veterinarian or technician. Assist with animal catheterization, following established protocols. Stock and maintain supplies in treatment and exam areas. Maintain cleanliness and organization in all clinical spaces. Requirements Previous experience in a veterinary clinic or animal care setting is preferred. Familiarity with veterinary terminology and laboratory procedures is advantageous. Strong animal handling skills with a focus on safety for both the animal and staff. Knowledge of aseptic techniques and proper sanitation practices. Ability to work effectively as part of a team while also being self-motivated. Excellent communication skills to interact with clients and team members effectively. A genuine passion for animal care, including experience with equine care being a plus.
