Our progressive and fast-paced Huntsville Veterinary Specialist and Emergency , specializing in exotic animal medicine, is looking for an Exotic Veterinary Technician to join our dedicated team.

Huntsville Veterinary Specialists and Emergency is a state-of-the-art multi-specialty and emergency hospital in North Alabama. We are a multi- specialty doctor facility providing comprehensive care to exotic and companion animals, including birds, reptiles, amphibians, rabbits, ferrets, rodents, and other pocket pets. Our team is committed to delivering high-quality medicine and compassionate care while continually advancing our knowledge in the field of exotic veterinary medicine.

What You’ll Do:

Assist in the care, handling, and restraint of exotic species Perform venipuncture, catheter placement, radiographs, and lab work on exotic patients Prepare patients and assist in surgical procedures and dental care Administer medications, fluid therapy, and specialized nutrition support Educate and support clients on exotic animal husbandry, nutrition, and preventive care Maintain accurate medical records and ensure hospital cleanliness and safety standards Work closely with DVMs, fellow technicians, and support staff to deliver gold-standard care

What We’re Looking For:

Credentialed Veterinary Technician (CVT, LVT, RVT) preferred or relevant experience with exotic animals At least 1-2 years of veterinary technician experience; exotic-specific experience strongly preferred Comfortable working with a wide range of species and adapting to their unique medical needs Strong communication, multitasking, and client education skills Enthusiastic about continued learning and professional growth in exotic medicine

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATION

Provide compassionate care to patients and clients. Conducts oneself in a confident and professional manner. Maintain accurate medical records in accordance with hospital policy. Prepare and maintain the exam rooms and treatment areas. Perform physical assessments. Effectively and safely restrain pets of different temperaments. Keeps the hospital clean and orderly to prevent contamination or infections. Comfortable communicating with pet owners regarding their pet’s care. Comfortable discussing estimates and financial commitments with clients. Explains necessary follow-up and homecare instructions. Understands usage, dosage, and common side-effects for commonly used prescription drugs. Assist the veterinarian in medical, surgical, and/or diagnostic procedures; prepares patients for surgery; administers anesthesia; monitors patients during surgery and recovery; administer fluids and supportive care. Perform emergency stabilizing procedures, including CPR. Perform clinical laboratory procedures. Performing radiology procedures. Perform and basic interpretation of electrocardiograms. Proficient in venipuncture. Care, admittance, and maintenance of hospitalized patients. Calculate medication doses and constant rate infusions.
