(CCAT) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization founded in May 2004. As an applied technology demonstration and training center, CCAT helps validate, demonstrate, and accelerate the adoption of advanced technologies to strengthen the industrial base and supply chain while delivering critical workforce training and upskilling. CCAT partners with federal and state agencies—including the DOD, DOE, NASA, SBA, and USDOC—through government-funded and commercial programs that support both defense and civilian manufacturing. Current focus areas include additive manufacturing, composites, advanced design, automation, metrology, and Industry 4.0 technologies.
Position Title:
Business Development Professional Position Summary:
The Business Development Professional will be responsible for using consultative and value-based sales techniques to understand prospective customers’ needs and recommend CCAT talent development, training, and technology adoption program solutions and services in a compelling and strategic manner. CCAT’s primary customers are small and medium-sized manufacturing companies, OEMs, and Tier 1 manufacturers. This position is responsible for managing existing client relationships and establishing new program participation opportunities via cold-calling, prospecting, and closing new business in the manufacturing training and technology adoption program market. Conducting effective, efficient, and professional in-person, telephone, email, webinar communications, and in-person information sessions and tours to achieve performance metrics is essential and required. This role will also focus on Sales Enablement and will lead the development of standard business development and sales processes and develop written policies, procedures, and reports for the new business development team and provide business development team requirements for continued refinement and development of the customer relations management system and supporting tools.
Essential Business Development Functions and Responsibilities:
- Initiate and secure sales agreements with manufacturers for CCAT programs and services.
- Conduct outreach to potential customers and clients.
- Exceed business development needs by creating and communicating the value of services with prospective customers.
- Present to small and large audiences either in-person, via conference call, and/or in web-enabled environments using PowerPoint and other technologies.
- Identify customer needs and position training and technology program solutions that add value to the customer and set CCAT services above the competition.
- Maintain a positive reputation and credibility during and after the initial outreach and business development process.
- Offer training and technology program solutions in a productive and professional manner to customers and team members.
- Follow-up with customers and colleagues on activities that drive program participation levels for the organization.
- Use customer relationship management (CRM) systems effectively to drive business leads and provide customer relations and support.
- Conduct business professionally in a manner that aligns with our company culture.
- Familiarize, understand, and communicate effectively details related to the technical aspects of training, talent development, and technology programs to customers.
- Set up information sessions and tours for customers to learn more about programmatic offerings.
- Manage, grow, and invest in healthy relationships with manufacturers and manufacturing trade organizations in the northeast U.S. region.
- Work with the talent, training, and technology teams to facilitate communication between training and technical staff and potential participants for purposes of growing program participation rates and levels.
- Manage training, technology, and engineering services participant pipeline by conducting outreach, enrolling participants, and tracking sales.
- Provide expertise to improve the program participant recruitment and onboarding process.
- Perform all other duties as assigned .
Sales Enablement Responsibilities:
- Define and develop sales processes, templates, and enablement tools that support automation, consistency, and efficiency across the business development team, working with the business development team and supporting operations, systems, and finance teams.
- Develop and maintain internal documentation, sales playbooks, and knowledge-sharing tools for use by the Business Development team.
- Prepare reports, automated disbursement, and dashboards that provide visibility into pipeline, performance metrics, and goal progress.
- Analyze business development and sales data and present conclusions to business development and CCAT leadership.
Education:
A bachelor’s degree in business, education, marketing, engineering, technology, or a related field.
Skills & Experience:
- A bachelor’s degree in business, education, marketing, engineering, technology, or a related field.
- A minimum of 6+ years of business development or sales experience working with manufacturers or private businesses with a proven track record of engaging businesses and customers, creating and executing sales or customer service plans
- Proven track record of working and communicating successfully in a technology organization or environment.
- Strong knowledge of the manufacturing industry and its operational best practices.
- Strong leadership and team management capabilities.
- Proficiency with CRM platforms and related sales tools
Desired Experience:
- Experience working with or within the U.S. military or Department of Defense contractor community.
- Can demonstrate prior strong, professional relationships with manufacturers and their key personnel throughout Connecticut and the northeast region.
Requirements:
Must fulfill ITAR citizenship requirements
Physical Demands & Work Environment:
This is an onsite role, Monday through Friday. The position involves occasional movement within the office, frequent computer use, and regular communication with internal and external stakeholders. It may also require visits to manufacturing businesses and adherence to safety protocols in lab and external facility environments .
